What are the tonal differences between the two Laneys?

Good idea. I had a TSL for a couple years before I was playing metal, and that amp really isn't that great at all. Pretty flabby, nasty sounding palm muting with little definition whatsoever. Even for just a rock project, I would still use the 5150.

I'm quite attached to it because I bought it when I was only 17 and I saved for it for ages, and I still really like the sound of it a lot.

The trouble is, I was originally going to keep it for the extremely VERY RARE occasion I'd ever need rocky stuff, but my dual recto does those things just fine (especially with vacuum tube setting on the back and vintage switched on instead of modern), so I really have no need for it.

I don't want to sell it because I don't want to get 5 or 10 years down the road and think "man I shouldn't have done that" but honestly, even though I think it's a great amp, it's nowhere near as good as my dual recto, and getting rid of it for something like a 5150 with a much better quality tone (and also something I'd use more often) really appeals to me.

haha, I've got a dog! :)

the vh100r is way more versatile, the ti has more gain and a bit more fizz.
the vh100 can sound close to the ti but not the other way round.

Hey Lasse, why did you get rid of everything Engl?

there's some really good engl-stuff...especially the straight, blackmore and savage.
still, neither of them did in any situation excell over the 5150, recto etc.

and some of the amps are so bad (you know which one I'm talking about ;) ) that I almost grew to hate the entire company....way too much hype around them.
I know, in the USA Engl still has got that "boutique" feel to it...
over here every 16yr old DM kid is playing the PB. by now the whole company almost seems cheap to me cause it's very difficult to not connect them with all those PB-kids
