WHAT ANNOYS YOU

then again, i'd rather metallica be trendy than 50 cent an other such bullshit. mabey now we'll get back our legions of long haired, denim and leather clad minions of heavy metal hell! let the revolution begin!

But it's mostly emo kids and fans of Trivium that are making Metallica trendy.

People who refer to the band they're in as "my band". It sounds super egomaniacal! It's not YOUR band unless you're a one-man band, and if you're a one-man band then it's obviously because you've got no mates because you're a cock! Boom!

I'm actually listening to Metallica less and less because of how trendy it's becoming.

I thought I was alone on this. Maybe it's the whole "omgz i hate popular things" but if I hated popular things I'd hate Iron Maiden and stuff. It's because everyone always talks as if Metallica are the be all end all of Metal "omgz master of sandman is amzin" while not actually knowing anything about the band. Yeah the first Metallica albums are amazing but they are not the only Thrash band in existance so STFU AND GTFO TREND WHORES.

That's something that annoys me. People who stop liking stuff because it becomes trendy. If you like something then you like it. It's mega, mega gay to stop liking something just because a few other people do. I fucking hate those super pretentious people who only like bands that no-one else has heard of then as soon as they become popular abandon them because they think they're so cool and underground. Grow up!

Hmmmm if people like Trivium it's generally because they like THAT band.
A hell of a lot of people are just getting into metal music and if their favourite band lists them as an influence they are more likely to check them out.
It fucking infuriates me when people say shit like that, grow the fuck up.
I love Trivium and Metallica, but I got into Metallica a good 7-8 years ago and Trivium 4 years ago when they originally came out. So yeah.
I don't see the point in not liking a band because of the fans, that's not your problem to be honest.

its not that I hate stuff that is trendy, I mean I love metallica, I respect them a lot. what pisses me off is all these people that make money of them because its trendy nowadays.
Pantera is trendy too and I love them to death. "megadeth pun" :p

some people say they love metallica and theyve only heard nothing else matters, or fade to black, it just pisses me off.

All bands make me want to die because no music is good enough nowadays. Even Evile, who're brilliant, don't quite satisfy my tastes these days. Its a shame - we need more modern albums like Seven Churches.

*cries*

Sorry but i can't understand liking a band less because more and more people like them....

The same as people who only like obscure bands who no-one has heard of so they sound cooler because they know something you don't, and when that band actually get somewhere and make something of themselves, even if its only slight success, them same people will stop listening to them because more people like them. its stupid.

i completely agree with mr caveman, if you like something YOU LIKE IT, other people have no relevance to your preferences.

That is the reason Evile will only ever have 6 fans. When they gain 2 new ones, 2 originals say they don't like them anymore. Just kidding but thats how stupid it is. Probably the number of people discovering bands far outweighs the number of people who think they don't like them anymore.

Dave I think you're going to have to discover a new genre, one that will satisfy your taste.

I guess they're just a bit afraid of being compared to the trendy kids?

This
I'll still love Metallica for the fact that they pretty much stopped me from listening to 50 Cent and all that shit, but when so many people start listening to them, I just don't wanna be percieved as one of those kids. Metal has always been rebellious against anything trendy.
I guess what I'm trying to say (very crapilly) is that I'm starting to feel ashamed to be a fan because I don't want to be compared to all those "trendy" people.

You shouldnt care if they compare you, you like what you like and for your own reasons.
Sometimes somebody will say, I like "that band"(whatever it may be) and I tell them its crap because I dont like it and some people get offended. If I told somebody, "Evile fuckin rules" and the they said that its horrible, I just ignore and tell them they dont no shit. What Im trying to get at is that if you like something enough, you dont care about what people say about it coz like it no matter what.

When time goes by you'll figure that out by yourself and caring less and less about what other people think. In the end music is subjective and that's something everyone should know, so you don't take it personal when someone's talking negative about one of your fav bands. I guess it just takes time to create your own opinion and daring to shout it out loud.
And perhaps the so called "trendy kids" don't care about music as much as you do, it sounds pretty obvious that you don't want to be compared to them.

I had that a while ago, I knew the Fratellis about 4 months before they went mainstream, loved them while they were still a bit underground but when they went mainstream I was like.. ah.. Fuck it.

i think the reason im not listenin to tallica as much is im listenin to more different stuff, n cant seem to get into alot of metallica, dont ask me y, like the new album i cant see to get into it, nothing really stands out, i still think that the day that never comes is abit of a rip off of one, they just dont have the magic there. im sure my view will change when i finally get to see em live

I'm the most picky son-of-a-bitch on earth when it comes to music. I don't JUST listen to metal (just mostly) and yet nothing satisfies me anymore and it makes me really angry because it doesn't make sense to me.

And Matt, I see what you're on about. Some of those people get on my tits too - I came across some twat on a forum who said that he stopped liking Sepultura after Beneath the Remains because they became popular and shit. Now, I'm an elitist most of the time and I like a lot of those unknwon bands but I've never gona off Megadeth or Napalm Death, or even Sepultura, just because they were successful. A band become successful is no reason to dislike them, however a band blatently selling out and making shit music is something different altogether.

Well of course no-one listens to purely metal as much as they think they might do.

I have something you could try, I make no guarantees it will do anything for you but, you could try going back in musical taste. Go back to where you started from ie the bands you were first into if not before them and build your way back up to what your into now. It might help you appreciate the stuff you're into now a bit more. If not it might inspire you to write more of your own music. Which was going to be my other suggestion, write your own.
