Whats up everyone... basically I'm just wondering what the death metal scene is like in your area? I'm from Albany, NY, the home of Skinless. Back in 2002-2004, the metal/hardcore scene was absolutely UNREAL. SO many bands, SO many shows. ALL underground, non-signed. Wasteform, Traumacide, Clitorture, Mucopus, Angeldeath, Held Under, Detriment, Blood Obsession, Disciples of Berkowitz, Text Divine.... it was unreal. Every fucking weekend... shows. We had 2 main venues, and if a national act wasn't coming through, you could go see Wasteform like every week.

We'd throw our own festivals out in the middle of the woods..... bring out a huge generator, slap down a few pieces of plywood, and hang a tarp from some trees in case it rained. Get 5 kegs, and we'd be up until 9 am the next morning blasting death metal into the wilderness. Heady times.

Now? Pfffff....haha. Death metal? HERE??? hahaha NOPE. Skinless doesn't even play here anymore. NEVER.

anyway......whats the underground scene like in your areas? I ask because I want to get Angeldeath out playing shows, and Albany is absolutely not the place for us to re-start our journey.

We were always the odd-man-out anyway, because Albany was all about being as brutal and gore-porned out as possible. We don't worship Devourment or Suffocation. We're OLD SCHOOL death metal: Altars of Madness, 7 Churches, Scream Bloody Gore, Blessed Are The Sick, Legion. Thrashy blasphemous death metal. Maybe you'll like us?

Heh, Wasteform were a cool band. Never heard practically anyone else really mention them. Anyway, I dislike the MA death metal scene for the most part. Especially our slam/brutal death scene. Don't even get me started.

Florida seems like the obvious choice...dunno if that scene is really still around, though. Just don't come to Boston; it's all hardcore/metalcore/deathcore.

I live in Los Angeles...apparently it's a pretty popular place. As far as the underground death metal scene, it's pretty stagnant. There was a surge for a while about 7 or 8 years ago, but now it's a bunch of fucking trendy angry bullshit metal bands.

The black metal scene is meh. It was pretty good and healthy up until a few years ago.

The amount of quality metal in Maine is pretty low.

Some dude that I work with who used to live in Boston said that it's mostly punk down there.

West Virginia is a sad place for a metal fan to live... Most people dont go farther than Lamb of God, Slipknot, Pantera, Bring me the Horizon... and Avenged Sevenfold. (and Metallica, not that I have a problem with metallica, but you know how people like that are  )

I only know of several people I've ever met that venture farther... a girl that listens to gothic and black metal and my girlfriend... whom I've brainwashed into converting.

but as far as a good metal scene here? No absolutely not. Until recently we had a great metal venue named The Pearl Room but because of this shit economy they closed down.

Tucson, Arizona sucks! There are bands and metal fans, but it's not large enough to support much. Phoenix is better, but I am not sure what's really going on up there, but I think thrash may be the largest scene. There is a promotion company called Mosh Pit Army that schedules a lot of thrash shows. They also have some sci-fi tech/prog thrash band up there which I cannot remember the name of.

EDIT: It's Vektor, and they recently signed to Heavy Artillery.

In Las Vegas there are a few DM bands (Spun in Darkness, Casketborn, others I don't remember etc) but theres usually around 20-30 people at the shows and thats about it. When Urgehal played it was packed though.

hahah.... yeah man. the Cropseyville Deathfest. fuckin BOOT-LEG. ahh that was a fun time... i was in Mucopus also, at that time, when we did that... that was fun. Watching people slam dance and mosh in the middle of the woods, in the rain. lol...

but yeah its just so weird, like Albany used to fuckin be like Tampa in the late 80's/early 90's. It was beserk. Seriously, like I put on a show at this hockey rink I worked at, with Locked In A Vacancy, Angeldeath, Wasteform, and Text Divine and fuckin like 80 people came. Step Up Presents is the big monopoly here in terms of promoting and show booking, and I did this on my own, at a place NOBODY had even heard of. The first show I did was wit Angeldeath, Mucopus, Clitorture and Held Under, and that drew about 45 people.

But its just weird... there is NOTHING here. Israfel is from Albany, and even they aren't doing jack shit. the hardcore/death metal tour is here tonight (fagbreed, C.Corpse, Born of Isuckis, Unearth, and Hate Eternal) and I'm REALLY curious to see how that pans out. Because Lamb of God was here w/ Children of Bodom, and that drew a lot of people, but thats like mainstream metal now, so I don't think that really counts.

maybe we should start doing like, internet shows? Like, get a bunch of bands together, and hook up webcams 'n shit, so that we can play from our rehearsal space, and have everyone here tune in, and pay like 5 bux or something? Hmmm.....

I'm originally from Boston and I pretty much agree with Andy/V5. No good death metal bands. In Toronto it's slightly better. I saw a decent old school/Swedeath band called Slaughter Strike. Not usually my thing but they were alright. There also is an okay brutal death band called Heaps of Dead from Peterborough.

Prague is ok overally, but fucking great when it comes to grind/heavier death. Alienation Mental, Poppy Seed Grinder, Pigsty, Jig-Ai, Destructive Explosion etc playing like every week is really cool. + there is a first slam bnand rising I haven't heard yet, called Epicardiectomy, looking forward to seeing them somewhere.
