What defines 'alternative' metal

Why would you call Black Metal alternative metal when you can just call it Black Metal and the non-metal elements you're talking about can just be implied under the Black Metal label? Your logic is a clusterfuck.

jesus get a job.

fwiw I had nothing to do over the weekend.

Call it black metal, my point is that it is just as derivative (if not more so) of non-metal influences as non-approved-metalcore or nu metal. Much of it is effectively alternative metal and the powers that be should admit that in the spirit of fairness.

I lol'd. I thought that was hilarious.

I nearly choked. Outstanding.

And actually I think HBB made some valid points and it's hilarious watching uptight snobs like Omni and Mort get all offended and huffy and dismiss everything he says as nonsense. The argument that he only feels this way because he doesn't like black metal is just as easily used against people like them when they write bands like Slipknot off as being non-metal just because they don't like them. And for me, that's the crux of the argument. Not whether black metal is alternative metal or whether Throbbing Gristle were influenced by post punk or what the hell alternative metal even is. It's this fucking double standard displayed by self righteous metal nerds who think that black metal is some untouchable purest metal but nu-metal/metalcore/whatever isn't worthy of being called metal at all.
