I tend to go into the pit for around 1/2 of the band's set. It really depends how close I get to the stage: when I saw Testament the pit opened up and gave me a chance to run to the front which I did but then I got annoyed with people elbowing me so I went to about half way and caught up with my mates before going back into the pit.

Depends on my mood, I recon the sound is usually better some distance from the stage so if I´m in music-nerd mode I´ll stay back but other times I´ll choose the pit or up front.

I did pits 10 years ago in Madison--smaller clubs. Helmet with Quicksand and Orange 9mm, that was fun. Since then, no fucking way. I like to headbang and rock out, but not in an American pit. Too brutal. I'm a little skinny motherfucker. I was at the front against the barrier in Milwaukee, Feb. 2002, Eagles, Anthrax and Priest. FUCKING BRUTAL. Surfers landed on my fucking head!! Big motherfuckers next to me trying to shove me out! I've fucking had it with pits, everybody in there is a goddamned asshole. I'm just there to rock out, man, not get killed. Call me a wuss all you fucking want, I don't fucking care.
i usually sit back and hang out. if i'm with someone who wants to go to the front i will but, i 'm not into the pits anymore. i guess i got old. i like hanging back and talking to other people about concerts and music and, just having a good time when the bands on. i got a pretty good beat down at a rollins band show many many years ago by some skins in a pit ( i had the long hair look going) since then i tend to hang back in the bar . i'd rather look at the hot rocker bitches then some shirtless sweaty dude.

What I hate is people moshing to things that shouldn't really be moshed to. I was watching a programme about the download fest last night: people throwing the horns and moshing to... FEEDER!
I try to not throw the horns anymore. Seeing people throw them to Linkin Park sickened me!

I've only been in the pit twice durign thrax out of three shows. I just make my way up to the front and try to catch a pick or something(which i havnt yet

im really unfit so the pit knackers me out!I usually only go into the pit for the last 4-5 songs!The Im a headbanger thru and thru tho! My neck is actually wider than my head thru headbanging, so i get laughed at in the street.

I think the word MOSH has been hijacked by big business like kerrang and commercial radio, you ever seen total mosh on kerrang??? HA HA HA! its a fuckin joke. these clowns wouldnt know how to mosh if you jumped on their fuckin heads from 20ft. (dont recommed that tho).
I'm not into violence at gigs, and i know what people on here mean about going into a pit these days, but some times it just pisses me off watching people try to slam dance to bands like feeder and such like. Whats goin on?

hmm it depends what the gig is like.i usually like to just stand in the wall of the pit and headbang like hell and the sound is usually good there also at a gig like anthrax i get as close as possible lol but i always hang to the side at gigs like napalm death cos when i seen them i was in the pit area, im 16,5'7 and some like 6'5 40 year old 20 stoner landed on my head and knocked me out and that shit aint safe!

Hardest pit ever: Biohazard (Lowlands) playing Bad Religion "..you only gonna die from youre own arrogance", at one moment there were like 2000 people falling over and nobody got killed!!
