What if the next Nevermore cd had 3 guitar solos total.

thats pretty gay.

Try this:
Go crank up protools or something and extract the solo parts
from your favorite NM song. Listen a few times and tell us
how it feels or your opinion of the arrangement...
Either way, cool beats and such but reminds me a "got milk" type of
commercial in the making.

Oh yeah, and Zakk...
I was never impressed by him.
Hangs on that one pinch harmonic and a
solo using the "pick and pray method".
The first time I saw him with Ozzy was his first
tour...Ozzman was a bit ill at the Seattle show and they
told Zakk to drag out the solo.....talk about seriously
"drag it out". A two finger hammer on three notes for 50+ seconds
covered up by a flashy green/purple light. Felt like being
drilled at the dentist!!! What a great feeling when it was over...
Another thing, Why does he use Randy's trademark polka dot V?
For myself, I think he's over rated and given the chance to get better
by not having to go to a job. But that's just the opinion of disgruntled
hard working stiff. Ahhhh, thanks for the vent...

:Spin: yeah.. that made LOTS of sense...

oh wait, no it didn't

then explain wtf "Listen a few times and tell us

And all I was saying originally was that if someone says "fuck this i dont want to listen to them anymore" simply because they dont solo anymore is fucking gay.

In some cases, the guitar treatment...solos, harmonies, etc. is the difference between true metal and all the other lame ass off shoots such as nu metal or metalcore. Guitar as the up front instrument, soloing included, is critical. how many times have you listened to a song just waiting for the guitar solo, or how many times have you heard a good song and said, wait, where's the guitar solo? It's very important to this genre.

Solos don't fit everywhere. To be honest there are a few Nevermore solos I could do without. Mostly the newer stuff.

To answer the original question, yes, I would still enjoy them.

At the same time it's kinda overdone, does EVERYSONG really need to have a solo? I dont think so. And I dont think it's what seperates genres. If System of a Down played a solo in every song, would that make them "Metal"? I dont think so.

I never said it was the defining factor...every song doesn't need a solo, but a good guitar solo can also make a song.

Metal is guitar driven...guitarists tend towards guitar driven music...I enjoy a good guitar solo(of which there are very few these days)...it's just a matter of opinion. Someone who doesn't play themselves may not really care one way or the other.

Oh, by the way, how would you classify SOAD? Just curious.
