what is your tuning & strings gauge ?

D Standard (DGCFAD)

D'addario EXL116 (52-11), I use them both on 24.75 and 25.5 guitars.

Ok here comes the list .....lol

7 String its D'addario 10-56 with a 64 bottom (Half Step Down)
Ibanez RG - Ernie Ball Regular Slinky 10-46 (Drop D Flat)
Ibanez S - Ernie Ball Super Slinky 9-42 (Half Step Down)
Strat - Ernie Ball Super Slinky 9-42 (Standard Tuning)
Les Paul - D'addario 9-42 (Half Step Down)
Acoustic - Daddario 12-53 Phosphor Bronze (Standard Tuning)
Bass - Dean Markely Blue Steel 45 - 125 ( 5 string Half step down)

The light gauge strings are due to me having carpel, and radial tunnel in my left arm / hand, it makes bending easier on me. The different brand bring out different characteristics in each guitar.

With Cadaverize I'm playing in Bb, currently with 14-68 strings. Seriously fucking heavy strings, but works great. I'm going to downgrade though to 13-56s or something like that soon though to get more crunch from the strings. The big advantage of the mega-heavy strings is that the last much longer before they lose their tone.

Otherwise I'm pretty much just shredding 80s hard rock on my ESP Eclipse with 10-46 in E/Eb. I used to play 11s for the high strings and 36,46,56 on the top three but that got kind of annoying.

you choose also heavy strings for the genre?

some weeks ago i put 13-56 in my ESP eclipse II for drop C and i have to say i don´t like it...not much strings oscillations, i get a plane sound...
today, i put my guitar in drop A# and i love it with 13-56 for my handplaying.

what strings must i put to play in drop C as drop A#? (comfort)

11-52 for example?

thanks

used to use 11-52 on drop C on a 25,5 inch scale guitar and thought it was pretty much perfect. 10-52 or 12-54 are also worth a try, but i'd say 11-52 pretty much nails it perfectly.

nowadays it's 10-46 d'addario in E-std / Drop D. Been thinking about going down to C# Std or C Std, but not yet sure which strings i would get. been thinking about 12-56 which might be good for C# but too loose for C. Maybe 13-60.

Alexi 600 and EX400:

D'Addario XL Nickel Wound Blues/Jazz Rock /w Wound 3rd:

.011 - .014 . - .021w - .028 - .038 - .049 (replaced with a single .052).

Drop C tuning, works quite well as I'm a sucker for wound 3rd strings. Upping the 52 to a 56 in the future though, I play way too hard for light strings.

Yeah, but the main thing is that we used to play in A standard and pretty much everything felt too loose until I got the 68s. But now when we're tuning to Bb (which does make a noticible difference) I feel I can get away with a lighter gauge and still get some good tension. Heavier strings do sound a bit duller, like I said it can be hard to get a good "crunch" out of them which is the only real downside.

But who knows, I go back and forth with these things, maybe in a few months I'll be using 0.80s  I'll probably still be complaining about tension though..

Skadsson: i think i´m gonna try the 11-52 for Drop C tunning. i saw a ernie ball pack for drop D & drop C, it´s 11-54, but if i don´t like to play with 56 in the top string, it would be better to change to 52, not to 54, correct?

The Unavoidable: "Heavier strings do sound a bit duller, like I said it can be hard to get a good "crunch" out of them which is the only real downside."
Correct, that is what i´m getting with 13-56 for drop C in my esp eclipse II. duller Di track, not much oscillation in the strings...

thinking between 11-52 or 11-54, maybe i´ll pick 11-52.

EC-1000 in D-standard: DR DDT's 11-54
or 12-60's for C standard.

I can't recommend the DDT's highly enough!
They have all of the qualities that I loved about D'Addario's, except slightly crunchier, and they last longer.

Basically, if you like D'Addario, give them a go!
