What other music do you listen to

Early Sepultura (pre-roots era), Early Metallica (first four cds), Slayer, Suffocation, Death, Deicide, Nile, Dying fetus, Vader, Bolt Thrower, Cannibal Corpse, Meshuggah, At the Gates, The Haunted, The Black Dahlia Murder, Lamb of God, Strapping Young Lad, Cattle Decapitation, Napalm Death, Morbid Angel, Bloodbath, Hypocrisy...there are so many other bands I like but I think that I am going to stop there...

God Speed You Black Emporer

Heh I love that soundtrack too. The disharmonious acoustic guitar riff near the beginning reminds me of Opeth big time.

Anyway, since you like that soundtrack, and also have the patience for GYBE!, I recommend checking out Vangelis. He orchestrated the soundtracks for Alexander (a good starter), Conquest 1492, Blade Runner, and Chariots of Fire. Great music while playing Rome Total War or any war game.

to avoid taking several pages making a list, i'll just say that i appreciate every genre of music. (yes, that includes rap, pop, soul, etc.) metal just happens to be my favorite, although several of my favorite bands are from other musical perspectives. i think ultimately it's the meaning and message that music carries that's important, not the means by which it is delivered.

Here are most of the artists I listen to: Meshuggah, Dillinger Escape Plan, Godsmack, Cradle of Filth, At the Gates, Chopin, Mozart, Beethoven, ARNOLD SCHOENBURG (Pierrot Lunaire), Darkest Hour, Arch Enemy, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Shadows Fall, Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, Judas Priest, Sigur Ros, Michael Jackson, Leaves Eyes, Motorhead, Tool, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Schumann, All that Remains, Robert Johnson, ACDC, Dream Theater, Cream, Greenday, Danzig, Misfits, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Howard Shore (LOTR), Kiss, Rage Against the Machine, and others

And of course, Opeth

I'll second that. Each word of it.

:worship: to Vangelis. Probably a bigger inspiration to me than Opeth even, musically. As we know Vangelis isn't really one for lyrics :p

Also Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Silver Mt. Zion are :worship: worthy of course.
