What other music do you listen to?

Hmm...as a general rule I prefer black/death/doom (list would be too long), but when I'm in the mood for different sounds, I appreciate the work of following bands/individuals:
Amorphis, Beatles, Cruachan, Empyrium, Fear Factory, Garmarna, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Mozart, NIN, Nirvana, Of the Wand & the Moon, Pearl Jam, RATM, Schubert, Skyclad, Stone Temple Pilots, Tool, Zakk Wylde and others. :)

aside from katatonia and every katatonia side project some bands i love are danzig (im not so into his newest shit like "5" and beyond i can do without)/samhain/misfits, the smashing pumpkins, opeth, the pixies, daylight dies, fields of the nephilim, joy division, the electric hellfire club (specifically the new album. its not so techno-ish), black sabbath, in flames, a perfect circle/tool, queen, soilwork, agalloch, anathema, sentenced, at the gates, NIN, tori amos (i have to be in a really fucked up mood for tori amos), juliee cruise, leonard cohen...the new bob dylan album is really good...hmmm. i got a diana krall promo from work and i like it a LOT...ive always loved the kids soundtrack, with bands like folk implosion and sebadoh-but ive never purchased a whole album by either group. and i know this may raise some eyebrows, but every now and then i like some 70's funk stuff. like james brown and al green (haah not his gospel shit though! no way). the dead presidents soundtrack is a good one. and i like elvis but i like roy orbison waaay more. now he was a sad guy.

if it werent for katatonia, i wouldnt know about these bands i love: songs: ohia, slowdive, jeff buckley ( i bought a tim buckley album a few days ago...i havent listened to it yet though)and robert johnson...

some stuff i love but dont have yet:
-shape of despair-i am waiting on a credit card i signed up for just to be able to buy their albums.
-arch enemy's wages of sin-
-saturnus-
ok, and one final band i have to mention...i work in a cd store and most of the promos we have to listen to are SHIT. nothing heavy at all.
well we got this promo in of a band called the strokes and i its my favorite one right now...im trying to figure out if i really like it or if my judgment is warped because im at work!

Lots of Metal + Ted Leo, Chisel, Dismemberment Plan, Radiohead, Karate, Les Savy Fav, The Hellacopters, Frank Sinatra, Fugazi and many more of course

smashing Pumpkins :p ,
Tool
Thorns
Zyklon
The Gathering
Lacuna Coil
Radiohead (rock equivalent of Katatonia i think)
Opeth
Stampin' Ground
Kiss The Blade
A Pefect Circle
Idlewild
Soulwax
God Forbid

BUT, these are the best bands of all:

Slipknot
Limp Bizkit especially Fred 'Da man' Durst
Linkin Pop i mean park
Korn
Wu Tang Clan

do you even have to reply to that :p

exept Katatonia

The Gathering
...In The Woods
Within Temptation
Anathema
Dark Sanctuary
Paradise Lost
Opeth
Sup (french band)
Tristania

I'm into all sorts of stuff. It would take me decades to list bands so I'll just do genres:

power metal, gloom metal, melodic death metal, black metal, thrash metal, classic rock, blues, grunge, and even a bit of nu-metal  like Staind and Cold.

yep, probably one of my favourite albums, your right about the not liking at first, but after hearing those songs live it made the songs so personal and depressing, its great. :) i think the last few songs are the ones you probably dont like, but i love the as she counted the spiders part (last 4 mins)of glass and the ghost children. i really like Adore too, tear is brilliant and as for the first 4 songs, they are so good, im gonna listen to them now  , fuck i miss them too much.

Well, newbie alert here but I figure this'll be a good getting-to-know-you type post.

Apart from Katatonia, I worship Opeth, The Cure, Anathema,Acid Bath, Tori Amos and Machine Head's first two albums. I'm also very partial to different types of music... Counting Crows, DMX, Dido, Dot Allison, Tori Amos(who needs to be listed twice)... of course, I love metal... Satyricon, Zyklon, newer Emperor, older Mayhem, Amon Amarth, Lorde of all Desires, Tidfall...Slayer, Dark Angel, and some other of the bay area bands... Hypocrisy, Arch Enemy, Carcass, Goatwhore, Burn it Down... God, I don't know what else... I listen to damned near anything that's good.

machina 2...ahh that little burned cd is hanging out with my other pumpkins cds waiting for a rainy day. i have seriously resisted listening to it for this long. i figure its the last 'new' pumpkins stuff ill ever hear.....so....; ) hehe...

Thanx. I think I've got it already. I'm not gonna get it tho  its too sad. They've been such an inspiration for years that it would not seem right to be buying a "best of" compilation

My Dying Bride
Anathema
Saturnus
Opeth
Dimmu Borgir (stop laughing at the back)...
Cradle of Filth (ditto)...
Theatre of Tragedy

Plus innumerable others.
