looks cool but it's absurd! Why could you want to cut your tongue in half? :guh:
I wouldn't do this, 'cause I'd be like :Puke::waah:

Omg! That's disgusting and one of the most stupid things I've ever seen. Ever.
It's so fucking dumb, I can't even believe it. And how is one supposed to talk with a tongue like that. Fucking retards all over the world.
I hope Darwin takes care of them

Still.. I wonder how a blowjob from a girl with a split tounge would be like. :heh:

there are some retarded things in the 'body mod' culture. there's a story about two brothers, one cut off the end of his finger, attached it to the other's hand so he could have an extended 'alien finger. then they had one remove his arm and attach it to the torso of the other. i'm pretty sure it's kind of a joke thing, but whatever, people would probably do it anyway. one of my favs is the person that carved SLIPKNOT in their pubic region, it's all nasty looking.

Eh, I don't see it as a huge deal. It's a body mod just like anything else (stretched ears, tattoos, etc). It's not for me either, but to say it's "so fucking dumb" and "I hope Darwin takes care of them" isn't very cool IMO. It may not appeal to you, but to lots of people in the body mod culture, it's cool and interesting.

FWIW, my g/f has this done, and I know two other people with it done. They can all talk just fine.

 ;)

While I agree getting scarification of a band name is kinda dumb, and I also think there are some weird and pretty extreme things in the body mod culture, scarification can be really cool and look awesome, if done well.

It's been around longer than tattooing. I guess it all depends on what you get done - much like tattooing - how many terrible tats do you see compared to really cool ones? Probably quite a few.

My g/f also has some scar stuff done (not trying to go around saying how cool I/she is, but just trying to dispel some myths). It's not dangerous, and it doesn't get infected. Yes, it looks kinda gross, but heals over pretty fast. Only the very top layer of skin is removed. Once it's all healed, the raised scar pattern can look really cool.

Again, scarification isn't for me either... some people think it's cool and I know quite a few people as well with it done. Different strokes for different folks..

However I agree the whole amputation thing is kinda dumb and a bit extreme...

Haha wtf, I didn't think someone on here would know people with.. this.
You can now call me an intolerant dickhead, but it's exactly what I think. To me, most body modification stuff is retarded but splitting one's tongue is a new level really.
It's plain self mutilation, imo.

Honestly with the Slipknot pic, I thought it was someone who did it to him/herself with some kitchen knife and not "professionally" done (who does this anyway, I mean is it someone with some kind of qualification?) and you know.. cutting around in your skin and exposing wide areas to bacteria etc. is a pretty safe way to get a nice big infection.

Can't even remotely understand why someone would want a split tongue or huge scars..

Ahaha, son of a bitch

Bahaha, no worries man. I wouldn't call you a dickhead or anything. You are entitled to your opinions!

It's a pretty weird kind of culture, for sure. I definitely wouldn't be as tolerant and stuff if I didn't have friends who were into it. For a lot of them, it IS their passion, just like guitar/metal/recording is for a lot of the people here.

I've just been around it enough that it's very normal to me, and I'm comfortable with it (although I'd never get it for myself, it's not the kinda thing I'm into - I have tattoos, that's it).

As far as the Slipknot pic, that is definitely professional. That kind of thing is done very carefully with (hopefully) a surgical-grade scalpel. One of the aforementioned people I know who has the split tongue, scars, etc. is a professional piercer/body mod artist and I've seen him work. The guys like him who do it for a living take it seriously; they make sure they use good tools and work very precisely. They also provide aftercare products to stop infection and promote healing, etc.

I don't personally understand it either, I could never do it to myself, but if someone else thinks that's awesome... all the power to them. I don't have the balls to do that

The former bass player in my band had this done without anesthesia.

Oh yes, and he´s affraid of shrimps and 9v batteries, lol

Yeah, but I feel stupid for being so affronting. There are really better and nicer ways to pronounce you don't like something

That's probably the point. Most young people are used to piercings, tattoos and ear-plugs, and the elder generations (mostly) react with disgust and damnation.. pretty much like I did. I guess it will be normal in a few years
 (though I hope it won't)

Yeah taking a second look at it, it was obvious from the beginning (or a natural talented cutter -.-). I've witnessed some pretty unappetizing stuff while working as an EMT - like car accidents, accidents involving industrial machines (ewww), attempted/successful suicides etc, but people hurting themselves always was the hardest thing for me to deal with. I can't fucking bear it :Puke:
And this reminded me of self-mutilation, that's why I was so aggressive.

Haha, yeah. That's the part that I can't get... actually, usually NONE Of this stuff done with any anesthesia. It's actually illegal to give anesthesia for body mod stuff (at least here in Canada).

I couldn't handle it!
