What's everyones top lists for 2007?

Circus Maximus - Isolate
Darkestrah - Epos
Drudkh - Estrangement
Iced Earth - Framing Armageddon
Megadeth - United Abominations
Mgla - Further Down the Nest/Mdlosci
Novembers Doom - The Novella Reservoir
October Falls - The Streams Of The End
Primordial - To The Nameless Dead
Riverside - Rapid Eye Movement
Symphony X - Paradise Lost

All of these releases are contenders for me along with

Amorphis - Silent Waters
Nae'blis - Sketches of Reality
Malsain - The Disease
Slough Feg - Hardworlder
Mael Mordha - Gaeltacht Mael Mordha
Angantyr - Haevn
Wolves in the Throne Room - Two Hunters

It's been a great year so far and there are still a bunch I haven't visited yet that have been garnering praise.

Wolves in the Throne Room - Two Hunters
There are some excellent moments on this disc, but overall, they missed the mark. This disc operates at two extremes; non-Metal, ambient, headphone music, and full throttle blast beats, with almost no middle ground. The ambient sections are too long, and the more aggressive sections lacking in overall quality. Perhaps I simply need to spend more time with this disc (though that argument can be made with almost any disc within the more extreme genres).

Agreed on both counts.

Mine's kind of short, so here goes:

Allen/Lande - The Revenge
Nightwish - Dark Passion Play
Megadeth - United Abominations
To/Die/For - Wounds Wide Open
Jaded Heart - Sinister Mind
Symphony X - Paradise Lost
Within Temptation - Heart of Everything
Anberlin - Cities (yep, this is my oddball)

Major disappointments to me:

King Diamond - Give Me Your Soul...Please
Kamelot - Ghost Opera
Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos

Out of the ones you listed Greg, these are the ones I would give thumbs up to. Primordial is a bit borderline for me, but it's not bad.

Circus Maximus - Isolate
Novembers Doom - The Novella Reservoir
Pagan's Mind - God's Equation
Pink Cream 69 - In10sity
Primal Fear - New Religion
Primordial - To The Nameless Dead
Symphony X - Paradise Lost

Several of those would place in my top 20, and one or two are borderline top 10's for me.

The Symphony X was a bit of a letdown for me earlier in the year, but not so much because of the quality of the disc .. more because I wasn't interested in listening to them at that time. I've spun it some of late .. it's a real good disc, but it placed several notches lower than usual SyX stuff.

By the way .. I just did this updated list yesterday, and posted it on a different forum. Things stayed pretty much the same. It's funny .. my comments were almost identical as before, and I had forgot I posted in this thread back in September.

This is subject to change, but here's my top 10 for this year as of right now.

#1 Threshold - Dead Reckoning -- their best to date in my opinion.

#2 Amorphis - Silent Waters -- big fan these days .. their last two are excellent. They are so unique sounding to me.

#3 Kamelot - Ghost Opera -- mid tempo somewhat experiemental Kamelot really works for me. The bonus tracks I've found add to the fun.

#4 Devin Townsend - Ziltoid The Omniscient -- I've never been a fan of DT .. until now. This is such a unique disc .. big hit with me this year.

#5 King Diamond - Give Me Your Soul ... Please -- I took to it right away .. this it's very catchy. I'm a big fan of KD, and had high expectations .. they didn't let me down. It's not quite up to The Puppet Master, but it's not far off.

#6 Eldritch - Blackenday -- I think this is a hell of a disc .. underrated. Some of the guitar solo's are very memorable. I like modern day Eldritch better than the older stuff.

#7 Symphony X - Paradise Lost -- took me a while to want to spin this, but it finally sunk it's hooks in me. I hope on the next one they use a little less evil Russ.

#8 Pagan's Mind - God's Equation -- I took to it pretty quickly. I like that they have changed gears a bit. I was tired of the direction they were headed. This one works well for me.

#9 Nightingale - White Darkness -- Another winner .. although I could use a little heavier direction. Still though .. lots of catchy tunes to be found, and I love Dan's clean vox.

#10 Scariot - Momentum Shift -- This was my favorite early in the year, but it's been knocked back a bit. Good & heavy Nevermorish type band. The new singer worked for me, and helps seperate them from that Communic/Nevermore clonish feel.

You started hanging around the wrong crowd I guess ;)
Probably true.

I'm not a huge fan of their new, heavier, more generic approach. They've clearly come to the realization, that they can sell more CDs/concert tix by being a Metal band, as opposed to be a Prog Metal band.

IN no particular order:

King Diamond - Give Me Your Soul...Please
Doomsword - My Name Will Live On
Alcest - Souvenirs d'un autre monde
W.A.S.P. - Dominator
Therion - Gothic Kabbalah
Lake of Tears - Moons and Mushrooms
Candlemass - King of the Grey Isles
Moonsorrow - V: Hävitetty
Turisas - The Varangian Way
Volbeat - Rock The Rebel/Metal The Devil

Probably true.

I hope the next time out they can find the perfect mix of Prog and Power. I thought The Odyssey was just about perfect in that regard, but this time out they went even a bit heavier. A lot of the reasons I like Symphony X are still present on their latest disc, so I'm not really all that disappointed.

King Diamond - Give Me Your Soul...Please

Oh, say it isn't so. Seriously .. KD's latest has received mixed reactions. In general I'd say it got pretty fair reviews, but I've seen quite a few voice different reactions .. so you are not alone.

I think the songs are plenty catchy, but I think the story is a bit weaker this time out, and that probably makes it or breaks it for some folks.

1 - Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos (there shoudn't be any doubt)
2 - Iced Earth - Framing Armegeddon (epicus enormous!)
3 - Dark Water - Calling the Earth to Witness (out of nowhere)

5 - Labyrinth - 6 Days to Nowhere (one of the most PP worthy bands that hasn't made it yet)
6 - DGM - Different Shapes ( SX wishes PL was this good)
7 - Sun Caged - Artemisia (Enchant vocals on heavier material...good mix)
8 - Spheric Universe Experience - Anima (not as good as debut but good enough)

Yeah man, I hate to say it, but his newest one just didn't grab me at all. I'm not really concerned about the story line, but the music itself is just too watered down. I'm having the same problem with Kamelot's latest, it just sounds too darned weak! :erk:
