What's the best recording program(protools)

The best is one you feel confortable with. I know this doesn't help, sorry.

Well, let me rephrase the question...what do most of you use besides Protools? I have access to many recording programs and I wanted to know whats good and what's crap? thanx

thanks for the link to the poll...I'm using a pc , windows XP. I have a descent sound card and so far I have Sony Vegas ...Acid 5.0, Cubase SX, Nuendo and Sonor 3 Producer edition and some others. Just wanted to know which were the better ones...thanks fellas.

if you had the proper hardware id say use nuendo.

Well, something to note, ProTools can't be pirated, like the other programs you've acquired, so you need to put some actual forethought into the decision to purchase it. The software only runs on proprietary Digidesign-approved hardware.

The more I use ProTools the more I preffer it to all the other DAWs I've used. Having said that, extensive use of Cubase back home has given me a reasonable knowledge of how it functions and hence I use it back here to mix (can't afford ProTools atm).

The best DAW is the one that works for you.

Not a fan of ProTools. I think the user interface is crap. It's overpriced as well. I prefer Sonar actually.

ProTools 7 comes out on Friday.
I somewhat know a beta tester and he told me one of the new features which sounded pretty cool.

From DigiDesign.com:

Pro Tools 7 Software Sneak Peek
On October 7, 2005, at the AES convention in New York City, Digidesign will debut the all-new Pro Tools HD 7 software for Pro Tools|HD® systems, Pro Tools LE™ 7 software for Pro Tools LE systems, and Pro Tools M-Powered™ 7 software for Pro Tools M-Powered systems. Pro Tools 7 software is a cross-platform release, supporting Windows XP and Mac OS X computers.

Digidesign® Pro Tools 7 software is the Pro Tools software release you’ve been waiting for. Take advantage of all-new Instrument Tracks for improved integration with virtual instruments and MIDI sound modules. Experiment more freely with MIDI tracks using new real-time MIDI processing features. Group any combination of audio and/or MIDI regions together to quickly build alternate arrangements. Work with REX and ACID files. Run more instances of many RTAS processing and instrument plug-ins thanks to host processing optimizations. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

Pro Tools 7 software empowers you to work faster than ever, thanks to a reorganized, more streamlined Pro Tools software menu structure. Get better acquainted with the Pro Tools software interface by turning on the new Tools Tips feature. Or, run Pro Tools M-Powered 7 software with one of several unique M-Audio peripherals. Whether you’re working in a commercial studio with Pro Tools|HD, a personal studio with Mbox 2, or on the road with a Pro Tools M-Powered system, Pro Tools 7 software arms you with the power to create like no other audio workstation on the planet.

And the best part: Anyone who purchases a Pro Tools|HD, Pro Tools LE, or Pro Tools M-Powered system on or after September 1, 2005, is automatically eligible for a free upgrade to the corresponding version of Pro Tools 7 software for their system (i.e., Pro Tools HD 7 software, Pro Tools LE 7 software, or Pro Tools M-Powered 7 software, respectively). Also, anyone who purchases a software upgrade to Pro Tools TDM 6.9.x or Pro Tools LE 6.9.x on or after September 1, 2005, is also eligible for a free upgrade to Pro Tools 7 software.

Make sure you log on to the Digidesign website on October 7, 2005, to get all the details on Pro Tools 7 software—including how you can get your hands on it. Better yet, come visit Digidesign at AES in New York City (booth 336) October 7-10, 2005, and be one of the first to witness the power of Pro Tools 7 software.

Looks like they're borrowing/stealing more ideas from Digital Performer. Should be interesting. I'm excited because my upgrade will be FREE since I just bought an MBox2.

I used Nuendo, I'm by no means a professional.

The applications are all very close in functionality and the gaps are closing every release.

Nuendo allows me to Hardware independant to a great degree and is intuitive to use, the drum studio I record at uses it and can have it mixed, and theres always a cracked version available -

Protools is expensive, you are binded to the hardware, there are some great reference materials and a lot of professional studio's use it.

Work out what you want/need from your recording application.

Yes....I'm using Sonor currently also Nuendo is good too. I have wanted to try Prootools LE which I have currently.... just don't have the hardware for it. Guess it would be good to invest in a used Mbox from Ebay or something. Thanks everyone for your feedback.

I'm sure some of you guys are sick of hearing this, but if you're PC based and want to see what your machine is really capable of, SawStudio is the way to go. It's the only DAW written in Machine Code. "Fast" is an understatement.

I'm going for Sawstudio basic as soon as I clear up $300 of space on my credit card.

Sad, but that's what "saving" up to buy something means to me these days. Haha.

Anyway, I can't afford a Mac that's more powerful than my PC, let alone the software, and I'm sick of Cubase bogging down on me. What's a guy to do?

With a little help of a little program Protools 6.9 TDM can run on a Digi 001, 002 and M-box.. ;)

Its fast and its weird. As the users are.

Did some tests between a few DAW's, published the results here (no audible difference) and got crucified at the SAWforum for doing so.
Went there and made them eat their nails. Got to know a few nice people and a lot of weird followers of this cult. Its overpriced -$2500, pleez- and generally a hobby of the guy who programmed it, who's not interested in SAW becoming mainstream but thinks that SAW is his 'piece of art' and you can admire it. He -Bob- has the nerve to claim that 'some guy with golden ears' has told him his eq sounds as good as a Weiss.
Well, it doesn't. It's ok, but no more then that. Can't hold a candle to the Algorithmixstuff, or the Halo channelstrip.
Make that statement at the forum and your disbelief will reap anger from the masses who worship the artist and his art.

How emotional can you get coding a frigging compressor? And by the look of his GUI I really don't feel comfortable in admitting Bob's 'artistic talents'.
He's a hell of a coder, but there it ends. He's no poetic visionair, but he wants you to fork over $2500 and agree to this fantasy of his. He's already a millionaire from former softwaredesigns, so he has no need to put SAW on the map but he likes the folks that worship him and his 'art'. His own private community of people who all like him very much and keep repeating that (go & look for yourself).

That's what you get by buying SAW. The only good thing of it is that it is not copyprotected what would hog it down, and ofcourse with such an enthousiastic and religious loyal community behind Lentini no copies of this piece of 'rephotoshop me ASAP pleeez' will ever be found on the torrentsites. :muahaha:
