Whats the deal with Metalcore?

Modern-day death and black metal are terribly generic.

Pure DM arguably is because of the lack of variety, but i don't feel Gothenburgh DM is. As for Blackmetal, stuff like Mayhem and Darkthrone are because they're shite, the likes of Emperor and Immortal certainly aren't.

What's metalcore?

I like Solefald. Is Solefald metalcore? If so, I dig metalcore, to the core!

Ok but seriously, I've not heard of any of these bands except Trivium, and I'd never heard of/taken notice of the word metalcore until this thread.

I think that the Gothenburg sound is completely overused. A good amount of the Metalcore bands use the quick melodic lines and harmonies the orignal Gothenburg bands used.

I quite like Killswitch Engage, however I find the other metalcore bands like Shadows Fall, Lamb of God, Trivium etc.. to be very boring

I hate metalcore. it sounds too much like punk music mixed with emo to me. It basically is really pansy metal. The only metalcore band I actually like is Shadows Fall, I think Killswitch Engage should lay off the opera singing. I think Shadows Fall has 2 very talented guitarists, and that is the sole reason why I like them.

I hate metalcore because I hate the hardcore scene and all the fags in it. I used to live with two of them. These guys were total douchebags, and one of em thought he was God's gift to the guitar. It's hard not to be biased, but I can honestly say he was the worst guitar player I had ever heard. He had zero talent. I sounded better than him after I had played a year, and he had had lessons and played for like 9 years. He also had a TRIPLE REC for our APARTMENT. What a tool. They thought they were being clever and original when they named their band "From my Broken Heart". Yeah, that's fucking clever as shit.

As for the music, like people have said, it's watered down wannabe Gothenburg shit, with the exception of BTBAM.

Killswitch Engage was good two albums ago. I really liked that one. I suppose there's some metalcore that I might enjoy, but I don't feel like weeding through the crap to get to it. And I don't like BTBAM or The Red Chord, the supposed best of the bunch.

To me, I've only heard Killswitch, Shadows Fall and Lamb of God. I hated LoG before I got into extreme metal, but now I kinda like them. Chris Adler is a drummer that stands out from the generic metalcore drummers, imo, with his creative use of double bass fills and whatnot (at least for metalcore.)

Otherwise, I haven't really listened to any metalcore, only what I've read on message boards. I don't feel like weeding through the crap to get to the decent bands, who are essentially watered down more-mainstream thrash.

On another note, the constant praise of Sevenfold by the mainstream critics is fucking annoying. How they get praised for their "innovation" of guitar riffing. Hey critics and mainstream idiots, Maiden was doing that in '80. Opeth was doing that in '95. In Flames was doing that in '96. etc. And their drummer, who I've seen been called "the best drummer in metal today", isn't terribly special. Dave Lombardo was doing that stuff 20 years ago that Sevenfold's drummer does now.

The new hardcore scene sucks balls.

The mainstream metalcore is really bad, its just pretty much rip offs of Swedish Melodeath with bad lyrics, bad vocals, and really bad breakdowns. At my highschool , we have a whole huge group of these metalcore kids. They all wear skintight pants and have girly hairdos. They all think At The Gates is a metalcore band, yet they are VERY wrong.

It just pisses me off. It never really bothered me before until they started labeling bands like The Black Dahlia Murder, At The Gates, and In Flames as Metalcore.

I do like a few Metalcore bands though. Killswitch Engage is alright. All That Remains is good too, and so is Between The Buried and Me and old Shadows Fall. The rest pretty much suck though..

mmmm, I think that the vocals of Lamb Of God are very good...

I like only a few bands... but the scene in general is quite bad... Lamb of god is the best metalcore band at the moment!...

I can't stand metalcore or hardcore for that matter. They all sound the same, you've heard one then you've heard them all. I do have to admit that Iliked Shadows Fall first album, then after that forget it. Oh, and All that Remains is pretty good too!

I think if they dropped their fake agression and concentrated on their dance moves they would be very sucessful boybands, but abusing guitars and "extreme" vocals like they do makes me sad. It used to mean something if you did an angry voice, now they all sound angry for no reason, until the clean vocals kick in and then they are another TOTP band. I just don't get it. They could be so much better if they just stuck to what they are good at, catchy pop songs, and forget the fake aggression.

It could be.

When I think of metalcore, I think of Avenged Sevenfold, Trivium etc.
Same here. It's just really not my thing.

Its like the "pop" of metal, it's to generic, and honestly, I don't like the people I know who listen to metalcore.
