I keep hearing about devin...and i tried listening to some of his stuff, but frankly i wasnt impressed. Is he overated as im assuming, or did i just seriously miss something? someone recommend a bunch of songs (preferably different from eachother) that i can listen to...to give him another shot. thanks.

Hey man. I was just like you the first time I heard Devin. He sounds like very typical old fashioned rock upon a first listen, at least he did to me. I still feel that way about most of his Strapping Young Lad stuff in general with the exception of a couple spectacular songs. However his solo albums "Ocean Machine" "Infinity" and "Terria" are all sensational to me now. Give those three another chance.

From Terria - "Earth Day" "Canada" All are great and will grow on you though, buy the cd. It made a difference over the mp3's on my comp.

Ocean Machine - Life, Night, anything else. Same as Terria

Infinity - Here there are several weak tracks but the strong tracks are as good or better than anything he's done. Get "War" "Bad Devil" "Christeen" "Noisy pink bubbles"

You've probably tried many of these already, but try them again. hehe. My favorite single track is "Earth Day" Later

also, check out Strapping Young Lad. they are on Century Media, and are a much more aggressive (industrial metal) project. also, Physicist are good too. same line-up as SYL but it is very keyboard-oriented. get the CDs from HevyDevy Records, because they are the best. i even got a christmas card with devin's autograph on there last year.

on another note, i'm so glad devin finally got his own discussion forum. he's easily one of my favorite musical artists

Devin's usual lineup tends to be the SYL guys (By, Jed, Gene). For Infinity, it was just Dev and Gene, for Physicist it was the full SYL lineup.

AFAIK, E Val Mescal of Zimmers Hole is playing keys with SYL so theres scope for a SYL/Zimmers tour. Who knows?

   (fuck i just pissed in my pants) damn you !
;) well that what its aim to do , it says "you piece of shit , wake up and fuck off , thanks"

what ? your pants , your shit or the shovel ? i could try the 3
at the same time. i could try to lick it too (the shit)

Point taken - looking back up the thread, i've noticed how many people get lost on Devin just by listening to one project, or just one track.

All the people who I know who are into Devin came into the fold from all directions. I wonder how many people have listened to some of his work which "didn't catch them" and missed out on all the good stuff which they would have?

Devin would be so unbelievably huge if wasn't so damn versatile and dynamic
