I voted Morningrise. I own all Opeth albums and thats my least fave. And all i ever hear is "yeah you just need to listen to it 5 billion times and its a masterpiece" well i don't give a steaming shite! :)

Morning Rise? wow, really?

oh well, i geuss it all comes down to personal taste.

Still Life. I can't believe how many votes Orchid and BWP have. I would have thought Damnation would have had more. I bet that a lot of people don't have Orchid or have only listened twice. If I need to go into a detailed explaination about why Still Life is the worst, I will.

A toss-up between the hearse and still life for me, probably because of the production.

Your mistaken with the "best album thread" there budy...

Orchid is my least favorite, I just like the "newer" Opeth more

Orchid.. it is a very good album, but I love every album, even though i love this one the least. It was just a bit.. "sloppier", I guess. I mean, it's their first album, they hadn't had time to find themselves and establish a 'consistency', for lack of better words.

All of the albums are brilliant, though.

Hmm, interesting correlation so far, It suggests that the albums that Opeth made in the middle of there record career so far are the most popular... Which is also interestingly enough the period when the Martins had just joined. Maybe there enthusiasm was in abundance during these first 2 albums.

Though it could also be because, Still Life and Morningrise are some of the hardest albums to get so not everyone might have it

Here's an old post from another thread.

I'm amazed at how many of you really think this is the best Opeth album. BWP, MR, and MAYH are all much better. Here's why: MR. SL may have Benighted and Face of Melinda, but TBYF owns these songs. The bass guitar actually plays a role on MR. It is essentially non-existant on SL. The acoustic sections are better on MR. The song structure may not be as tight, but I prefer the wandering structure. The vocal delivery is far better on MR, with the whispering and all. MAYH. The lyrics and concept are better. There is no repetition on this album. Demon of the Fall is on this album. Nothing on SL can touch Demon of the Fall, or When. Epilogue is a far better close to an album than the end of White Cluster. April starts the album with much more of a bang than the boring Moor does. The acoustic passages on MAYH are great, too. BWP. BWP does have repetition at times, and Harvest is a straight verse/chorus song, so it doesn't beat SL in that department. However, BWP sounds so much more evil than SL. Nothing on SL comes close to Leper, or BWP. The lyrics are great on BWP, and the bass returns. The transitions from soft to heavy are done very well. The riffs on BWP are the best Opeth riffs. Except for some Orchid riffs. But I doubt that all of you here have Orchid anyway. Conclusion: SL is AT BEST Opeth's fourth best album.

Since then, I've listened to Orchid more and decided it's a much better album. The ending of In Mist is one of the most emotional Opeth moments. Orchid has the piano solo, bass solos, hand percussion, and the volume swells and stuff. There's so much variety. Orchid has great heavy riffs too.

Orchid musically has more emotion and atmosphere than any opeth album. The electric guitars and clean guitars have alot of reverb for a cool sound. Just the overall feel of the album is the best I think. It's really a matter of interest, because for me...that album makes me feel more depressed or sad than any other Opeth album. The Twilight is my Robe is the best Opeth song I'd say.
