i actually think that alot of metallica's covers are great/
i think tha garage inc is an excellent album and definitely worth buying in my book, but i have a stack of cd's to buy firts. it's very well done in my opinion. it just has a very rockin feel to it, know what i mean? quite pleasant and just good old rock and metal.
well, thats just me.

worst cover song though is In Flames- Eye of the Beholder or whatever it was

Best Cover Song: Fuck you by Overkill (originally by DOA)

Worst Cover song: Anything by metallica that they did in the 90's, except So What (which kicked ass).

yeh the in flames eye of the beholder is bad. but i think children of bodom dont stop at the top is really bad as well. its a tought choice as about 1/2 of the cover songs i hear arent that good.

well my friend bought one of their cds because he thought he read a good review. it was fucking awfull. i mean it was really bad. it turns out it was a different cd he read the good review about anyway.

no. we read a lot of reviews, and we've heard of a lot of fucking bands. its hard to keep them straight sometimes, especialy if you've never heard them. and i listened to the cd too. it was fucking bad.

I really didn't like 6FeetUnder's Graveyard Classics cover album...the thought of a death metal band with those vocals covering a song by Jimi Hendrix is totally ridiculous and makes me laugh.
Garage Inc. is awesome,Metallica does great cover versions, especially since they fuck around w/the songs a little bit so they aren't just playing someone else's song, they add to the songs.

NoLordy likes jimbob's quote.

He also listened to the original "Everything Counts" from Depeche Mode, and even though he LOVES In Flames, and they made it a LITTLE better, he doesn't like either at all.

awww i like everything counts by in flames. sure its not their best song by any streach of the imagination its still pretty tight. i like the lyrics too.

and you're judging the band (who has about 12 or more albums released) by one album? hell, i don't like poets and madmen that much, their newest release, but albums like 'gutter ballet', 'edge of thorns', and 'hall of the mountain king' are all classics that will never be equaled by any band.

neal, neal, neal. . .

Britney Spears take on "Satisfaction" is pretty brutal (and not in the good ol' death metal way, either). I can think of a ton of covers that I love, including Metallica's Whiskey in a Jar (Thin Lizzy covering a folk tune), Rainbow's Still I'm Sad (Yardbirds, so good they covered it twice), Judas Priest's Diamonds and Rust (Joan Baez) or Green Manalishi with the Two-Pronged Crown (Fleetwood Mac), to name a few. With all the tribute albums floating out there, I'm sure we could name a 1,000 really crappy covers. By the way, I saw Tori Amos do "Purple Rain" live and it was great. I bought her new album, Strange Little Girls, which is all covers (including the aforementioned Slayer tune), and it is pretty much hit or miss. I also note that the Iced Earth covers (on the Melancholy EP and on the Tribute to Gods CD in the box set) are uniformly mediocre at best. Jon ought to stop right now.
