I had a lot of people try and tell me to check out Manowar. I new they were lame from way back, but I kept getting "oh man, download such-and-such song - you'l love it." and the like. BULLSHIT. Thay sucked when I first heard them in the early '80's and they still reek of bad cheese. But I gave them a chance. I went and downloaded like 40 tunes and listened to them a few times. Still, I found no redeeming value in their brand of "metal" so live and learn, eh?

I don't see what all the fuss about Soilwork is either. In Flames wanna-be Gothenburg shite.

Hey Man! Manowar ist one of the best bands in the world!
Hail And Kill!

I've discovered many great bands thanks to recommendations at the Opeth Off-Topic board. But generally I check out some MP3s before buying an album from some unknown band. There are some bands, though, that are always highly praised, and I don't like at all, for example Katatonia, Pain Of Salvation,...

so that makes me the third person in this thread who can't get into Pain of Salvation :erk: I have Remedy Lane and some songs are quite good but as a whole it's just too brown and bland in a way..Part 2 is the best of the album IMO. I've heard older stuff too like !, and some of it's alright too but it's still brown....though, not darker brown, more of a baby-shit-brown. :Spin:

Century Media's heyday is over, as is Nuclear Blast's.

Century Media still has some heavy hitters that are seasoned pros in the power metal department and a couple of bigger prog bands, but one of their biggest, Angel Dust is on hiatus right now. I am really more into prog than power metal, but Angel Dust completely kicked my ass at PP2. That is one great band that performs well on dics and live. I wouldn't mark CM as being down for the count. Inside Out America is also a strong label, but remember I am prog oriented....

A lot of people told me about Stormlord back in the day. I listened to it and I hated it....I kept listening to it and now Stormlord is my favorite band :p

two years ago i was at a cannibal corpse show and talking to some guys who told me to check out a band called Soil work (at that time i never heard of them), later on many people started telling me to listin to this band, finaly i bought the cd natrual born chaos and i hated it. It sounds like a bad hard core/ metal mix. Same with dark tranquility people keept telling me this is an amazing band that i have to listin to, and they are even worse than soil work. I am not going to listin to people any more. LOL, i stick to my black and (real) death metal. How ever have you ever had this happen to you, when every one said a band is great and you got the cd and you end up hating it? :erk:

1)Natural born chaos is not a good point to start listening soilwork...maybe this is the first step to a mainstream future for them(and man don't tell me that the last album is better because maybe is even worst)....

2)don't ever trust a metalhead

What Katatonia have you heard? :OMG:

Yes, old Soilwork is good, new Soilwork is bad.
