Ok ill actually have an opinion.

In the bands ive been in its been the drummers, and vocalists (including myself at times) that tell the others what to do and stuff. My guitarists and bassists seem to keep to themselves in discussion but write the best stuff.

Yes, but I think depending on the instrument they specialize in, it influences their ability to write songs and such.
Imo, i find that rythmn guitarists have made good band leaders in many bands compared to others.
