I had to go with death, just because so many bands fit into it. I'm a big "noisecore" fan. Watchmaker, Converge, Drowningman, and Dillinger Escape Plan can sort of fit into this category. I think that is the future of American heavy music.

Uh, do I have to pick, its too fucking hard.

I'm gonna have to say Death because I loved that before I got into Black and Doom. Well, no because Thrash got me into Death metal.....Arrrrgghh!!! I can't choose. But what bands do you consider Classic Metal?

I voted death because it can incorporate so many different styles of music/metal into it (besides, the poll separated 'brutal' death metal out, so I wasn't thinking along the lines of Cannibal Corpse or Krisiun style DM). You can get progressive & extremely technical or you can hear the classic twin-lead attack a la Maiden. But most importantly, my fave (current) bands are melodic death metal. You know who they are.

While I listen to all of these genres except Classic, Power and Nu, I voted death metal. The majority of my CD's are death metal, with black metal in a close second. But I don't consider brutal death and just plain death metal different genres. Death metal encompasses brutal and melodic sub genres. Just because one is softer than the other, doesn't mean they should be separated. A metal head should enjoy both.
