which mic for recording bass guitar cab?

I believe Andy Sneap did for the new Megadeth.

NOICE!!

i had great results gettin a smooth sound by mic'ing the sub-vent on an ashdown and an sm57 on the speaker cone, was recommended by a friend, i was happy with the results...

to be honest, i want to try my SM7b on a bass amp, see how that does...

dude, post a clip if you try an SM7. I would but I don't have a bass cab at my disposal!

to be honest, neither am i, but since becoming a student, i've been reduced to an ashdown head i picked up dirt cheap

BUT i do know a guy with a marshall bass stack, so if i can get a snippet of him playing something on through the SM7b and an SM57 i'll be sure to post it.

I know its not the norm but i tried the SM7 on kick once and got some nice results...

Ill try a few mics today on my cab and see what combo works best, posting each one (though w/ my mics, I don't have anything fancy for the lowend). Also, my cab having a midrange driver, Ill have to mic it up differently than most people.

Here, I just threw something together....

This recording was my 6 string Ibanez SR506 to the Mesa Boogie BB750 (mild EQ settings, all to 12 o'clock except for passive-midrange at 10-11ish and treble at 1, tuned for my cab) and a custom made cab w/ Eminence 6" midrange and 15" 3015LF woofer (ported I think to 40Hz... can't remember now). Also, DI from the amp set to "pre" as not to capture any EQ settings or anything else.

All this done in my POS computer room, facing into a couch in the corner of the room... sorry... its all I got to work with :D

I didn't do anything after the recording except for export them.

Here is an SM57 direct on 6" midrange and SM 57 direct on 15" woofer
