Yeah, Japanese use futons, "futon" meaning thin mattress. I have a bunch of those plus blankets and comforters.
So,do you keep Japanese customs-like sleeping on the floor, eating with chopsticks? What else do you have-walking barefoot in the apartment?(I may be confusing this with something similar).
Strangely, I imagine that most Japanese have their own private robot maids, and all pet/dog owners have this nifty translation gadget that allows them to communicate with their 4-legged pals.

You're just a fucking Japanophile p-p-p-panzerfaust. Sleeping on a bed is SO much better than sleeping on futons or tatami mats.

Home life in Japan is not all modern and chic like you wish it was. Though if you've seen the "Tokyo Breakfast" sketch they really do have those cool sideways/upside down CD players.

I generally don't do Japanesey things at home. I pile 5 futons on top of this shitty wooden bedframe that my predecessor left and only eat with chopsticks when I get takeout. I used to sleep on the floor but I like being a little elevated when I'm sleeping.

I don't wear shoes in the house, because only uncultured dogs wear shoes inside their homes.

I cringe whenever I see people wearing their shoes in their own house. I can't imagine all of the crap they've stepped on that they have tracked all throughout their house. I get an awkward feeling whenever I wear shoes in someone's place, especially on their carpet. But I guess if they don't give a shit then why should I?

I never got the whole walk around the house in your shoes thing. Seems to be a common thing in Australia, and sometimes the same people choose to walk outside to the nearby deli in bare feet during summer (I have to say I'm guilty of this sometimes).

Whenever I bring friends over or something they say "Oh wait, it's an Asian house. I should take off my shoes." Here I am thinking, that they probably have dogshit all over their carpets. I don't think it's an Asian thing, I'm pretty sure it's a cleanliness thing.

I am always barefoot at home, I hate socks and slippers are pointless to me unless it's cold, in which case I wear them.

I was brought up in a strictly no-shoes-in-the-house house. All I can think of when I see shoes inside is all the times I've peed on my own shoes using squat toilets.

Dude, that's a pretty inane thing to worry about. I can understand not wearing shoes in the house in order to keep carpets and floors looking clean; but for sanitation purposes? There's really not much you can do in that sense, and removing your shoes doesn't really make much difference. If it's on the bottom of your shoes, then it gets in your house.

There is a difference between it getting into your house right by the door, and tracking it all over everywhere, which eventually then gets on your bare feet, and then eventually gets into your bed.
