Yeah, it all seems to be coming down to Obama vs McCain, who now has the added boost of Bush proclaiming him a 'true conservative.'

I think a lot of people are underestimating Obama's electability. From what I understand, he and Clinton are polling very similar numbers against McCain, with Obama a few points (within the margin of error) ahead of Clinton.

Agreed - but that number is dwindling by the day. It's pretty cool to see actually.

Correct - and I expect that number to widen further in the near future.

Nah... I'm pretty sure they'd prefer Hillary. She's far more polarizing than Obama, who is just a tremendous orator and is far more capable of rallying those on the fence his way. If voting Democratic I'd feel way more comfortable with him on the ballot.

i just fear that if he ends up against McCain, the real mudslinging would start from the Republicans, and he is an easier target than Hilary.

but yeah, I would love to see him in the White House as it would certainly make this country and the world take notice ... by default things would begin to change.

even people I speak with in Europe daily (mostly Eastern) are saying they love him there and are supporting him. These are the young people however. Older people still have a race issue ...

Obama probably would have a greater breadth of bad feeling against him from the troglodytes of our country, but let's be honest, there's no way those folks are voting for Hilary either. On the other hand, he stands a much greater chance of capturing swing voters who have a lot of built-up bad feeling against Clinton. Look at how well he did in middle America on Super Tuesday. He can handle a little bit of mudslinging.

Barack Obama is one of the best things to happen to this country in years.

Unless he becomes a typical politician after election, in which case no black man will get to be president again for a long time.

I prefer someone who no longer runs, and thought Hillary was a dried up cunt all the way back in 1996.

McCain is whatever Zod said before ... an old man ... we need some young mind and fresh blood.

we're doomed if McCain wins. he can't possibly out debate either Hilary or Obama when the time comes.

If it wasn't for his pro-life views and his stance on Iraq, I would actually consider McCain (if it came down to he and Hillary). But that's more a reflection on Hillary, than it is McCain. And to some extent, it's not even about how I feel about Hillary, but how America feels about Hillary. This country needs to become united. And clearly, a Hillary Clinton presidency will not achieve that.

Can't we, as a nation, just compromise and make Obama President? Democrats wouldn't have to endure another Republican in the White House, and Republicans wouldn't have to face their worst nightmare, Hillary in the White House. It seems like a reasonable compromise to me.

I do recall my dad joking that McCain would die in office... yeah, Obama can't hurt too much, providing he doesn't fuck up everything. I bet even the publicans would tolerate him to an extent.

" If Barack Obama becomes the next US president he will surely be assassinated, British Nobel literature laureate Doris Lessing predicted in a newspaper interview published here Saturday.

Obama, who is vying to become the first black president in US history, "would certainly not last long, a black man in the position of president. They would murder him," Lessing, 88, told the Dagens Nyheter daily.

Lessing, who won the 2007 Nobel Literature Prize, said it might be better if Obama's Democratic rival Hillary Clinton were to succeed in her bid to become the first woman president of the United States.

"The best thing would be if they (Clinton and Obama) were to run together. Hillary is a very sharp lady. It might be calmer if she were to win, and not Obama," she said. "
