USSR, Cuba, China, the Iron Curtain, and virtually every country that ever claimed to be communist/socialist was, in fact, a form of capitalism ruled by the state. It just shifted the power from the bourgeoisie to a group of bureaucrates that arose from the proletary class. Actually, if you take a look at the Russian Revolution, for example, you realise that it was an insurgence of a handful of people controlling masses of workers standing against the monarchical state. In a way, that's the same situation from the french revolution, which was pretty much capitalist in essence.
