Why must Opeth fans be such bitches?

I haven't yet seen them, but I am a big Paradise Lost fan. I think it's INCREDIBLY rude that people heckle a band, no matter how much they suck. How would you like it if someone did that to you? You'd feel mighty damned stupid if that were done to you. Support bands are SUPPOSED to get around 45 minutes, but an hour is average, too, when you only have three bands playing. I'm not so sure I'm excited with the new direction PL is going in musically, but I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt a see how it goes. Maybe I'll like it. I think another problem is that many, many of the PL fans at the Opeth gigs have been waiting so many years for PL to come back and play in the states that they think the band should try and vary their set. Here, very few of us know or are exposed to the "new" PL. If PL hears so much heckling but gets a good response from the ONE old song they play, don't you think they'd get the point and try to incorporate a couple more old songs into the playlist? I do agree with most of what you've said though, them][nstrel. I've seen MORE than my share of shitty bands. Being in the music industry, it's impossible to avoid. But if some band is just not my cup of tea, I do realize there are people out there that DO like it. Just my two cents.

I personally loved Paradise Lost, they totally won me over in Montreal, and played another impressive set in Toronto. I'm definitely going to look into some of their new albums now.

While I do not condone heckling, it's just a part of life in heavy metal. The moment you start playing in a band, you have to accept that some people can be bitches. I bet that Opeth was heckled when they played support gigs back in the mid-1990s. It's too bad that it's happening to Paradise Lost, since they are a huge influence of lots of modern metal (My Dying Bride anyone?) but sad as it is, that's just rock n' roll.

I'm not big on PL. Haven't heard their new stuff.. Dranconian Times is pretty good, but the vocals on Gothic killed it for me. I do recognize that they probably influenced alot of bands in death/doom metal, but that doesn't mean that they're great. Helll, Judas Priest influenced countless bands and I can't stand them.

Its all about respect though, and people should try their best to keep their mouths closed when a band they don't like is up.

Listen to the album, "Painkiller". Might change your opinion of them.

Oh for fuck's sake them][nstrel, who gives a fuck? Seriously, who does?

The majority who've posted here. And I'm sure Paradise Lost feel a bit crushed as well.

Yeah, that's atrocious, not right at all... Although if Opeth end up touring here and get Blooduster as support, I think I'll be doin the same. That band just suck royal dick and I don't really want to pay a couple of dollars extra for them to waste my time with their set.

This sentence contradicts itself. Don't be hypocritical. Personally, I think it's pathetic how people can shout "You suck" to a bunch of guys who have more talent than they are ever likely to have.

The truth is, you're giving Opeth a bad name, and you're disrespecting them as much as their support bands. So if you are one of these people, stop being so moronic.

I've lost track of PL over the last few years, so I was looking forward to hearing them. Like a lot of people, I wasn't impressed by their new sound when I saw them on this tour -- but Icon is still a great album. I didn't notice any heckling -- but if there was, then that was lame.

It's a sad thing that Paradise Lost are victims of this. Not that I like their latest 3 or 4 albums, but MAN did they mean much to a lot of upcoming metal bands in the early/mid-nineties with "Lost Paradise", "Gothic", "Shades of God" and "Icon".

I can name you a band off the top of my head they influenced, Eternal Tears of Sorrow, one of my favorite bands ever.. and now I see why. I was only introduced to PL recently and no, they don't sound much alike at all but PL are smart musicians.. Symbol of Life is a very strong album, nowhere near as light rock sounding as Believe In Nothing. But I like things about that album too. This one is just much darker and edgier.

I didn't notice any heckling last night. Both support bands got pretty decent responses. I thought they weren't bad either. Definitely not deserving of the trashing I've read around on various boards.

Yeah, you're right it does contradict itself, it seems I forgot to put in I acknowledged that when I first wrote it. I do feel that it's bad that a band get heckled, however if the band is wasting my money, and my time (a band like Blooduster is a prime example of this, as they're virtually deliberate worthless shit) I will try to make their time on stage harder.

Also my guitar teacher used to live with the bass player of Blooduster and I have full knowledge that they're morons and their ways of coming up with the music, so I would feel no remorse heckling them.

Remember I only wrote that because Blooduster is in question. I definately wouldn't heckle another support band, especially one I've never heard before.

ya know what im sorry paradise lost is really bad..how influential they are, i dont care...i dont listen to goth music...or most doom metal, opeth is where i stop...they walked through their set...they didnt even get into it at all. every song sounded the same. it was not pleasing on the ears, good thing the sound was so poor that it wasnt very loud..and whats with moshing to that band? is that necessary? i had 3 foot goth trolls diving into me to 80's pop music ...i agree though that people disrespecting out loud like that is rather annoying but thats my two cents

It didn't occur in Pittsburgh either, but it should because the lead singer of Paradise Lost was a total ass to the actual couple of fans that were there to see them.

PL had like 2 actual fans at the Pitt show and they were requesting songs and getting into it and the lead singer gave smart ass remarks to him like "can you say that again, I didn't hear you the first 4 times" and "look at the monitor, there's the playlist if you didn't know"

So why does he deserve respect if he can't show any of his actual fans respect? Their stuff stinked anyways, I couldn't tell one song from another. Maybe PL should learn something from Opeth and make their songs more original and unique instead of sounding like everyone else out there.

I think shouting crap to bands sucks big time.
If you don't like it then boohoo... I don't think that the rest of the audience is interested in your "HHEY LOOK AT ME! I THINK THIS BAND SUCKS AND WANT EVERYONE IN THE CONCERT HALL TO KNOW IT!!!" Everyone is entitled to have an opinion of the band but it's just wanting attention, like with childs when they have nothing else to do...
...It's hard enough to get on stage and try not to think that some idiot throws a pocket knife at you. (hasn't happened to me yet though :D )

Oh no, I don't think you should curse out a band because you don't like them, but I don't think the lead singer should act like an ass to the few fans he had that showed up for the show, in which I can understand them getting booed off...

I can't name a single band I listen to that was influenced by PL.

I, as does everyone, like Draconian Times. Incredibly solid album. I do not in the least like any of the stuff from the past 5 or 6 years. I didn't heckle them until they did their whole "We're playing our last song" and continued to play the two songs they had scheduled as an encore after noone cheered or anything. "We're going to..." "JESUS CHRIST STOP PLAYING ALREADY!" And he looked at me. I'm sorry, I'm usually really good about it but an hour is TOO LONG for them to be playing. The first half hour I somewhat enjoyed, theyw ere not a band meant to play for an hour though, especially to the Opeth crowd with their new material. At Jaxx people seemed relatively good about it, for TTV as well. Got nicer people here I guess. Not really anyone liked them (I didn't mind TTV, sounded almsot ambient) btu we had the decency to keep our mouthes shut.

Of course, why do we have to? I mean, we're free to like or dislike, and shlow our like or dislike, whenever we feel. Especially to bands who are snobby, Paradise Lost falling neatly into that category. They were elitist and stuck on themselves, one of the reasons I felt I should say soemthing. That and the boredom was becoming unbearable.

The only band I can name influenced by paradise lost is probably katatonia. PL's gothic album inspired a lot of people.

Oh, and Icon definately remains a better album than Draconian Times, but that's my opinion ;)

Many of you made poor examples out there at the shows, I have heard it all over the place how Paradise Lost was received by you with calls of "you suck" etc. I think this kind of behavior is lame, I mean you had to wait what, 45 min - 1 hour for them? Big fuckin' deal, if you don't like them at least have some decency so it can be enjoyable to the others that came to see PL, and maybe just maybe PL could remember the tour with Opeth as a favorable one, instead they probably will want nothing to do with the band after this. Don't get me wrong, I like Opeth ok but some of you kids are fucking morons. Paradise Lost influenced a lot of your favorite bands and deserve respect. Not only that, their new material is actually quite good.
AMEN!

stay a while longer and you'll see it's not uncommon here either.
