World Cup 2010 - South Africa

Find me one Dutch person who says they're gonna lose ;)

i would think that any country's populace would be confident they'll win going into a championship game...

that said, i think the fans of any team in any sport would be confident that "their" team would win going into a championship game!

What did I say ? Spain ! No need for high scores to win a cup :)

Honestly, the game was crap, especially because of those dutch assassine tackles that would have diserved a red at 20 mn only. It was obvious they didn't get 2 or 3 reds because it was a world cup match and it would have killed it... They got it at 105 which killed them.

It was still a balanced match. Both diserved to win.

Well that sucked. Victory for boring football and scraping through, all the BBC pundits going on about a victory for the beautiful game, fuck that, if 1 - 0 and a whole load of diving is the beautiful game then I'm fucking Pele.

Also, all hail the octopus.

True. I don´t think it was a crap match, as both teams were were attacking, but Holland really can´t blame the referee. He should have given a shitload of red cards during the game and he was afraid of doing so just because it would ruin the match.

howard as been consistant all tournament with allowing the game to go on, but this was a real dirty game, i think a few red cards should have been shown, but webbs tactic thoughout the tournament was to dish out the yellows, throw the cautions out there, and hopefully that style of play would cease!

Congratulations to the Spaniards. Teams were both equally good in my opinion. Only thing is that i am pretty bitter about the referee. Holland deserved a corner before Spain scored and Webb didn't give that away. Also i think the ratio between yellow cards and free kicks in comparison with Holland and Spain was ridiculous at times. Almost the whole selection had a yellow card! True, some were really justified, think that De Jong's karate kick could have been a Red card straight up. But the second yellow card at Heitinga and the yellow card at Van Der Wiel were just plain absurd.

That's essentially what I came here to say

I agree with most of you... the match was dirt as hell, mainly by the holland players... blaming the referee even when was a clear fault like the De Jong karate kick!

Here in Holland, we don't blame it on the referee. Yes he had a fair amount of influence, but it isn't that we didn't have the possibilities to score, we had them, and we missed them. De Jong deserved a red card, as did Puyol deserved a 2nd yellow card, Iniesta also. It was a hard match with a referee who wasn't up to the task to get this game under control. He was just waving yellow cards here and there, and that doesn't help with getting a game going.

Heitinga got 2 yellow cards, not for the most aggresive tackles, just tackles that needed to happen, but both yellow cards you could have expected from a referee who is carrying them in his hand all game, I probally would have given them myself to Heitinga also if I was the ref. I do hate Iniesta after the 2nd one, directly getting up and claiming a yellow card to the referee; my first reaction after seeing his face claiming that card was "I'm going to decapitate you, miserable fuck".

Belgium would've won if they got to the finals...
Btw do we have sarcasm tags?

EDIT: congrats to Spain, but next time when you celebrate keep it low. I need sleep :)

Don't get it:
I've heard several times(for example from the tv host) that the match was boring...

NO WAY. The Netherlands fighted like hell and to be honest I liked it:)
It was the only chance to disable the Spain short-pass-game.

It was deserved and we have new italians;) playing-wise:D

For about 40 years we showed the world how football is supposed to be played, now it was time for a change, unfortunatelly that didn't help either. This means we will always be second. Atleast that's what it feels like.

As said, de Jong deserved a red-card. But also Puyol and Iniesta deserved a second yellow card. Tough match from the start, only we were easier to provocate and so got more cards.
