he has absolutely no emotion in the vocal.

I think this is one of the major beefs I had with him throughout the competition: he doesn't feel what he's singing. He has no passion and puts no soul into it. 'What About Me' is supposed to be heartfelt, but he sings it like he's down the RSL singing karaoke after a night on the turps! If that's all you need to have a hit, I'm going to record my acoustic guitar version of "I Hope I Never" with the vocal done in a Leonard Cohen monotone style.
