The only thing funny in this thread is you thinking that long-term Tool fans are going to give a shit about you repeating the same bullshit the band have had thrown at them for over a decade. Guess what, some people don't think Tool are deep or hard to understand, they just think their albums rock.

Well "Necro Joe", if that is your real name, this album is substantially worse than anything else they've released. At least the other albums had some decent riffs, unlike this shit which is more or less "Chugga chugga chugga" the whole way through. WOW ADAM UR SO KEWL, PALM MUTING RULZ!!!11 KEEP DOING IT FOR 80 MINUTES STRAIGHT!!!!11
I hear more varied riffs on this album than anything else they've done, but even if they did use the same style for a whole album (like, say, Meshuggah) who cares? If you're trying to create a certain effect then repitition can work well, given you have the skill to write a song that stays interesting. If you don't find these songs enjoyable I'm not sure what you saw in thir last two albums, since they just take the same ideas that bit further on 10,000 Days.
I'm not saying its the best thing they've done and I fully expect to hear better albums this year but jumping on the 'all tool fans are dumb for liking this' bandwagon every time a new album is released is just fucking lazy, esspecially if you enjoyed their past work. Just accept they've moved away from whatever it is you like and don't rehash what other people say.

checked it myself, researched the kanji on some jap number websites, and yeah it means 23. Of course this is all pointless to me, but it shows they've had the 23 concept around for a while.
