you fucking TOOL!

Sorry Tool freaks, I just don't hear it. While this disc is more focused than "Lateralus", it's equally as dull. I've tried listening to it a handful of times now, and each time, it just fades into the background and becomes white noise. There's nothing compelling about these songs.

To my ear, Tool gave us something new on "Undertow", perfected their sound on "Aenema" and hasn't released anything worth owning since.

So, let me sum up:

Lacuna Coil's "Karmacode" - own it
Godsmack's "IV" - going to own it
Tool's "10,000 Days" - not worth owning

i dont really think they're pretentious (like Radiohead), they just have morons for fans (like Radiohead).

Thought you liked Radiohead?

1 million people liking CD = 1 person liking CD

So not sure why the amount of people liking something would dictate otherwise. Nevertheless.....

re: new Tool -- not sure about the whole album, BUT the songs "Wings for Marie" part 1 and ESPECIALLY part 2 are obvious standout songs of the year and that's what I've been saying for ages now. "10,000 days" alone does deserve the hype I believe, just as I firmly believe "The Coffin Ships" deserved to get all the hype from last year.

That said, the last 3 tracks of the new Tool album are complete duds IMO. Total filler if you ask me, so you can pretty much strip them away and just hit 'stop'. That detracts from the overall album. Maybe they'll grow on me in time, but they're such meandering nonsense, I doubt it.

I've never heard Undertow. I agree that Aenima is near-perfect. Lateralus scared me away. New one is great (and at minimum features the best song they've ever written).**

** provided there isn't anything better on the Tool albums I have yet to hear. :loco:

and this guy John Maynard Keyes' vocals...some people are making him out to be some sort of metal Pavorotti (sp)

Dude - say what you will about the music, but his vocals are phenomenal.

Metal pavarotti = Eric Adams. :D

To each his own. My only regret is that somehow there are 'happy'/alternative sections that don't fit so well (I'm thinking about that one in 10.000 days or The pot for instance). Ah good album.. I haven't listened to anything else since 5 days.

!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know how anyone can call Lateralus a snooze fest, it's one of the most energetic albums I've ever heard, there is so much focus and concentration going on, it's total King Crimson worship of the finest calibre. Non-fans obviously can't handle multiple time signatures (as in, multiple played at the same time, not boring prog-wank where a 7/4 gets thrown in every 3rd measure), but calling it drab is like saying cocaine makes an excellent sleep-aid. I mean maybe it's just the musician in me who craves thinking music, but still. Boring? That doesn't make any fucking sense.

Anyhow, I have 2 CD-Rs of this album, one for work, one for my car, and the original for home. It's still 8/10 and the only real OMG AMAZING part is Wings for Marie, but it was only released yesterday, so time will tell. Lateralus took 2 years for me to truly grasp, and this is a simpler album in a lot of ways. I dunno yet. I'm just happy for new Tool material. :)

Also, while I'm bitching...

I'm fucking sick and tired of the shitty term "filler," it's always bugged me but now it just pisses me off. Like most people on this board, I have a fuckton of CDs which vary in overall quality, but I don't think I've ever heard filler on any of my albums. Filler is what you get on bullshit pop and rap records, the gaps filled between 30 second soundbytes that they are chock full of. It's simply not a concept I've ever heard in the entire rock n' roll world. I don't skip tracks because I've never felt the need to, I judge albums as albums, not as greatest hits collections.

I've never heard Undertow. I

buy it

if only for sober and bottom
but the whole album is good

anyway this new one:
has now had enough plays for me to declare it great

wings for marie 1+2 is 10/10 material, i can't see my opinion changing on that
its worth buying just for these tracks
pure spine shiver stuff

the rest is still sinking in

one thing that is becoming apparent is that the percussion on this album is fucking fantastic
