Your fave Thrash Metal bands

Hmm... I didn't actually listen metal in late 80's, but I'll answer anyway. :D My favorites would be Metallica (first band I got into in '92 or something), Megadeth, Slayer and Testament. I like bunch of others too, but those are the most important for me.

I'll try to leave out all the awesome Death Metal Bands I'd normally name...

Dark Angel
Vio-Lence
Exodus
Forbidden
Testament
Slayer
Stormtroopers of Death

Megadeth (first 2 only)
Kreator
Destruction
Sadus
Exhorder
Devastation

And other stuff I'm forgetting

There were many pretty good ones... well.... Testament, Messiah, Kreator...

Anyone that likes the new thrash metal stuff (latest Testament, Kreator albums)? It's not the same anymore... bust somehow good. (Tho not as good as it used to be...)

I think my favorite Thrash Metal bands ever would have to be Slayer and Dark Angel. Dark Angel's "Darkness Descends" still blows me away. What an amazing band! Jim Durkin is so awesome. I just saw him play in his new band, Dreams of Damnation, a few weeks ago. They have a chick doing some of the vocals and Jim still has it. It was brutal and amazing. I heard they have a new album coming out. Other Thrash bands that rule would have to be Exodus, Sadus, Forbidden, Megadeth, S.O.D., Kreator, Vio-lence. Has anyone checked out Witchery and The Haunted? There is some definite Dark Angel influence there. Pretty hot.

That sucks... Dreams of Damnation were supposed to play down here, but I didn't find out till the night of the show that they had cancelled...

Dragonlord was awesome that night though....

SODOM
DARK ANGEL
DEATH ANGEL
MEGADETH
DEFIANCE (bet you young 'uns don't remember)
SADUS (first album)
FORBIDDEN EVIL
Old TESTAMENT
KREATOR

Now:

WITCHERY
THE HAUNTED
DREAMS OF DAMNATION

I agree with Take No Prisoners...all the way.

DEATH... surprised nobody mentioned them... RIP Chuck

Also, for "back in the day", but not necessarily anything I would consider favorite...

Exciter
Agent Steel
Nuclear Assault

Accept (borderline)
Carnivore (not quite thrash, but weird for back then)

You are right xenophobe, no one mentioned Death (including myself). I feel so ashamed. So, much for thinking on the top of my head. Death is definetly one of the best Thrash bands ever. Chuck Shuldiner was one of the most influential musicians of all time. His influence transcends musical barriers. R.I.P. you will never be forgotten. Death was awesome.
I heard Dreams of Damnation will be releasing a new album in a few months, so I am sure you will be able to catch them again. Did you see Vio-lence play a few months back? (I noticed you are from the Bay Area)

I forgot to list him too, BIG SHAME ON ME... and I posted two responses to this thread prior to realizing that...

Takenoprisoners: Yeah, I was at the Slims show. Was pretty awesome seeing them again, twice in a few months (Thrash of the Titans)...

You're in Oakland... Man I miss Paul Balof. Last time I talked to him was at that Violence show... truly depressing too.... kinda a fixture of the Bay Area scene.

You going to the Nile/Arch Enemy/Hate Eternal show at the Pound in July 19?
It's gonna be awesome!

80's Metallica
Anthrax (Beladonna time)
Testament
Exodus
Forbidden
Kreator
Paradox
Death Angel
Heathen
Nuclear Assault
Dark Angel
Slayer
S.O.D.
D.R.I.
Sepultura
Exhorder
(Death- is not really Trash, isn't it? I would say they were the first real Death-Metal Band, Possessed were earlier but I would call their Style Death-Trash)

The best Neo-Trash bands are:
Fear Factory
Machine Head (first 2 albums)
are there any more ???...

That's actually a difficult call... Possessed were much more brutal than Death, and Death always had a more mainstream (for DM) appeal.

Then again, a lot of the bands you mention cut that line too, but back then, there was really only Thrash... Death Metal wasn't really a genre, just more brutal thrash... at least from what I remember growing up in the 80's:

Dark Angel
Slayer
Sepultra
Exhorder
DRI
Kreator
