your favorite shirt.

Wow! After reading those stories, I am glad I always lived in Europe. I brings home the shit you guys have to endure over there for being metal fans. I never realized that. I mean I heard about it, but this story really brings it home.

I never experienced shit like that here in the Netherlands. But then this country is not obsessed by the Christian faith like the US is.

Thanks rokk for telling us.

It sure was frustrating at times, Hawk. Especially for a kid like me. I was so freakin' rebellious back then that I'd do whatever it took to piss off authority figures...and would later pay the consequences.

I got so angry with the religious establishment after that whole devil-worshipping fiasco that I continued to pull stunts that would cause a stir; the one with the hardest impact was when I took a big rock to school and told everyone that I believed it was God. (This is actually a very interesting story, but I don't have time to type it right now).

Later I boycotted my own graduation ceremony, telling the Principal that I was ashamed to have graduated from such a predjudiced high school. While my classmates were standing uncomfortably up on stage in their square hats and gowns, I was outside smoking weed and kicking a hackey-sack with some Juniors. :D

I do remember that shirt, .... I remember how much of a stir that shirt did cause.......

Lets go back kiddies to 1983..... I was at TSO's house watching the late night movie "The Warriors" (remember that one... "Warriors... come out and playeeayy") The show got over about midnite and I headed for home on foot. Being about a 10 block journey I started getting a little jumpy. As I was walking I looked ahead and saw in the light of the streetlamp a couple of guys headed my way. I crossed the street to walk down the opposite side and they crossed too. I kept telling myself there was nothing to be concerned about I was just freaked out from watching the movie. Then as they approached one of them swung and I ducked and he missed. I realized who they were (trolls). I took off for a light porch on which to make my stand and was blindsided and slammed into a glass screen door. I came to from being knocked and kneeling in a puddle of my own blood. My wrist had been slit by the glass and I was bleeding pretty profusely. I put pressure on the cut and headed for home. I ended at the emergency room for @ 10 stitches in my wrist.

I made a police report at the hospital and the next day I was called to the Principals office where the cops and the guys who jumped me were waiting. The cops were convinced the the we were all part of a Satanic occult and that we had sacrificed a local farmers livestock. They concluded that I had wanted to leave the occult membership and the other members of the cult were trying to kill me because of it.

I asked them what made them think there was any satanic cult and they said it was because of the IRON MAIDEN SHIRT with the LONG LIVE BACKWARDS MESSAGES slogan TSO and I wore.

Wow, that's pretty scary being attacked like that. I can't believe the cops automcatically judged you for being in a cult for that Iron Maiden shirt. Probably because the whole anti-heavy metal notion was all the rage in the 80's when heavy metal was at the height of its popularity.

Recently around my area there really isn't a big heavy metal controversy but the stupid typical stereotypes are still there. For example the whole "kill your mother/ryour dog" or "you shoot up schools" bullshit to name a few. These bullshit stereotypes about us will always be there. I dont care if everybody doesnt exactly get our music or subculture while they're just satisfied with MTV rap but dont judge us by the image they have of us.

Of course being a KISS fan and wearing KISS shirts didn't help either! :headbang:

I have heard many stories where cops find any stupid excuse to get out of the responsalbility of finding the real criminals. They are probably afraid of them and find it easier to make up any story. It happens most out of the U.S. I have heard but this story shows that it could happen anywhere.

you guys are so fuckin lucky to have friends that are metal heads...i live in north dakota, and the only other kid that calls himself a metal head in this whole state thinks that nirvana is metal.....pretty pathetic, so i got nobody to help me defend the faith(not that i cant do it on my own)

I can certainly relate to that feeling. Its been a long time but I felt like that in the late 70s, when I knew no one who liked the music I was into.

Maybe its a good idea to try to get someone you know and can get along with into some metal-like music. Meaning don't start their introduction with Children Of Bodom's "Tokyo Warhearts" album but try something subtle.

IOW, don't accept the situation but be an activist! Of course be carefull to be an activist in an friendly manner. :)

O and save some money and try to come to Europe in the summer and visit a festival! :headbang:

yeah i have one friend thats just getting into megadeth....but he listens to shit like disturbed and korn....so i gotta try and steer him off that track

oh man, you dont know how bad i wanna go to a metal festival, thatd be so fuckin sweet.

me too, all we have around here is ozzfest, which isn't really worth it.

I don't have a favorite one anymore. Use to be a neat Black Sabbath with the devil from the 82 world tour on the back, but it died long ago.

In SA you can get get a driver's lisence from age 18 only, that's when you may legally drink as well. You're allowed to defend your country from age 16 though :err:
