I think Mikael Åkerfeldt is great. A lot of people dismiss Opeth because of the growling, which causes his excellent clean voice to become overlooked. He's also the only growler who does not annoy me.

making an amendment to my post under fav harsh vocalists: Onkel Tom Angelripper from Sodom. I saw Sodom two weekends ago and holy shit does Tom have one of the most venemous, sinister harsh vocal I've ever heard.

Only dumb people dismiss Mikhael. Actually I've heard people dismiss him simply because he doesnt have a powerful clean voice. This is true, but his death vocals rule all, and his style of clean singing is VERY appealing. People forget a singer doesnt necessarily have to sound like Russell Allen or Dio or whoever else to be considered good. As long as theyre brilliant at what they do.

Yep. Mikael's my favorite growler too. I'll also say Devin Townsend is another good one. He has a different style though. It's more like screaming than growling I think.
