Not an original thread.... sure.. but lets try to do it in a more complex way

I would like all the people on this forum to tell us what are their favorite Symphony X songs and why. To emphasize the part that makes you chill, the part when that lyric gets to a higher level with that vocal melody, these melodies that touch you, ..... the songs that make you feel totally out of this world.... you know what I mean... :p

Lady of the Snow, just put the intro on with your eyes closed. I'm a sucker for middle-eastern shit, that's why my fave band is Ozric Tentacles

Candlelight Fantasia, I don't know.. it just touches me deep in my heart

Awakenings, the whole intro is amazing, the rest of the song as well ofcourse

fuck.. I could continue for hours.. ALL symphony x's songs is A-class material. well.. except for the debut I think.. but it's being re-recorded with Russell GOD Allen :)

Cool thread :tickled:

Of Sins and Shadows - Romeo's second part of the solo where he comes in with some very fast picking. Also when the backing vocals are singing the chorus, you can really hear the bass and it sounds awesome.

Inferno - Of course theres the opening riff, and the double bass drum licks in this song rule. My favorite part though is the chorus, with an awesome riff and Russ hitting the high notes.

Sea of Lies - Interlude, 'nuf said.

Fallen - The keys really set a dark mood for the song, which I like. And the vocal melodies during the chorus also rule, you know the "symmetry divine" part.

The accolade = my 1st Symx song so it will always have a BIG place in my heart, And besides the chorus really touches me and makes me get teary eyed:waah:

So to the "accolade 2" = the chorus again... God I love the way Russ writes!! But the words of the song in general, just touches my heart! UGH!!

Fallen = I just love a good "DARK" song..

Wicked = seductive, and Dark sounding..Really cool! music, lyrics.. the whole thing.

Wispers = my fav. guitar solo by Romeo. Don't ask me why, I just love the solo in that song! grips my heart!

Egypt = "live", I love the way Rullo plays that song live more then anything, and of course the "Gaze into these eyes my child and see..."
oh man,, killer!

i know i have more but can't think right now..

It is hard to say something about songs separately. All Symphony X 's music is filled with awesome power and divine grandeur. I'd say that SX have good musical taste.

Comparing them to (for example) DT (only IMHO of course) , their music has much more emotions.

DT's music is clear, dry and sterile - for me it sounds just like stubborn, stupid stream of sounds.

And SX through their music are just telling me : "You know guy, we are cool and tough boys, be overwhelmed by our music! eat it! drink it! enjoy it! feel it!" And I fell it, and I enjoy it.

Medusa's Eyes.

Mike R's dark, super riffing along with Mike P's dramatic and atmospheric keybords and Rusells melloncholie vocals makes it sound soooo dark, sad, moodey, evil!!

And when Russ scream "ENDLESS TIMELESS FACELESS TORROR ect..." makes me go "FUCK YEAH!!!insane!!!

And Mike R's solo is just sooo quirky and cool. And the whole-tonw lick along with the phyco shreddage at the end is Awssomme !!

Then the dramatic classical bit makes me nearly cry.
And justas I'm about to go and cry -
JAJAJA JAJAJa PING!!!! When he does that harmonic it sounds like the heaviest thing in the world.

Man I love that song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What constantly amazes me about SymX is their ability to make music that is so interesting, both in terms of vocal and instrumental skill, that I want to listen to it time and time again. I never get tired of listening to the stories they tell through their music. My favourites:

Evolution - My first SymX memory is of this song, because V was the first I bought. Everything about this song is perfect.

Sea of Lies - It's all good, and one of the first (that weren't on V) that I heard. The bit with the keyboards, just after the guitar solo, begins about 2:45 minutes into the song. Fantastic.

Fool's Paradise - I remember singing along to this one while doing coursework in the early hours of the morning. Damn, V is such an amazing album.

Smoke and Mirrors - My favourite track off Twilight.

The Accolade - Amazing music. Amazing lyrics.

Accolade II - As above. Just as good, but in a different way.

Rediscovery (Part II) - The New Mythology - Just plain good. The first long SymX track I heard.

Thats not the keyboards, thats Romeo's tapping frenzy.

Awakenings=best song ever. The piano stuff is Pinnella's best work, I think.

Egypt- my first favorite SX song. The chorus is so much fun to sing along to.

Through the Looking Glass- again, the piano and vocal parts are the best!

The Odyssey- The cool lick before Russell goes 'Triumphant...champion of Ithica!' One of the most memorable licks to me.

Most of these songs usually have one moment where Russell sings a particular note that just brings everything to life.

The Accolade - Still my favorite. Just amazing, empowering, and super epic all around. "A heart of gold pumps within his metal skin, a noble line he carries on"

Egypt - The first Symphony X song I recognized as Symphony X. So cool in so many different ways. The riff, the piano, the bass, and of course, Russell. "Fears in the night chasing the sun. Now we are one"

Wicked - The undeniable groove to the song. And once again, Russell "She saaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiid!!!"

Evolution - The first time my head almost exploded from a MJR riff. And I always liked the chorus.

I told you there'd be something similar. :p

Through the Looking Glass - It's just an incredible and beautiful song.

Church of the Machine - I like all the changes in this one, and that one really cool riff.

The Divine Wings of Tragedy - Do I need to elaborate?

Candlelight Fantasia - Another beautiful song, especially the verse and chorus. Cool bridge riff.

The Odyssey - Once again, no need to get into details here.

It's hard to find music that is really as good as symphony x so just to clarify- ALL (minus "symphonyx" :p)their stuff is great (obviously).

Communion and the oracle- The verses melody is so good to sing along to and it gets quite uplifting- "raise our hands up to the sky", warms the heart.

The odyssey- There are only 5 guys in this band right? :) This is the epitamy of musical genius!

Awakenings- just everything about it. But especially the part in the solo/interlude after the little jazzy bit and the keyboards on their own with the synth strings or whatever it is....you know what i mean, right?

Divine Wings Live - I would be happy with the last 4 minutes of this song... that would be amazing in itself, but GODDAMN!!!! superb.

Wicked - the grove, and the great memories of seeing them perform it live... *sigh*

Evolution - First song i heard by them from the metal blade website... stuck out from everything else and is just incredible!!!!

the odyssey - TRIUMPHANT CHAMPION OF ITHECA!!!! 'nuff said

ok, not a symphony x song but:
Dawn of a million souls - Russel's best vocal performance, and romeo's solo is brilliant and so moving!!! Love this song.

Of Sins And Shadows: Who doesn't like this?
Pharaoh: THE CHORUS!!!!!!!!! Why don't you people love this masterpiece?
The Eyes Of Medusa: I love the heaviness throughout the song. And of course the chorus just makes me crazy
Inferno: THIS SONG HAS THE BEST CHORUS THE MUSIC AS A WHOLE HAS EVER PRODUCED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Both Accolades: I like the melody and again the choruses (I seem to be into choruses :D)
King Of Terrors: It's just so fuckin' heavy

These are just a few to mention. I don't think SyX has actually bad songs, some are just better than others.

It's not just that you like choruses; it's the fact that Symphony X repeatedly writes KILLER choruses. I swear... out of the last 4 Symphony X albums there have only been like 2 or 3 choruses that have been duds... witching Hour and Orion the Hunter and maybe like 1 more. Compare this to a band like Dream Theater and I count like at least 10 horrible choruses on their last 4 albums... probably closer to 20 for them. Symphony X just fucking slays; they can't be beat.

Communion and the Oracle - Great arrangement, playing and singing. One of their best songs.
The Odyssey - The only bad thing about it is that I wish Russell had more singing to do on it, otherwise, perfect.
The Divine Wings of Tragedy (live version) - Russell puts more passion into it on the live album, best parts are the "standing on the edge of paradise..." and "looking out on a blue sky..." (so emotional, ah...)
Inferno - Awesome riff (you all know which), great singing (love the mix of rough in the verses and the power-metal like in the verses)
Evolution - Just love it, nuf said.

Church of the Machine! - Just listen to the the part where the guitar and drums are taking over the keyboard + awesome riffs and all...
My definitive favourite...

Orion the Hunter! - Don't know why, it just NEVER fail to get me...

Out of the Ashes! - I love speedy songs, and this one is just the Shizz!

That's the current three (it changes about twice a week)...
