Your Favourite Led Zeppelin album?

I havent heard Helloweens locomotive breath, just Maidens version of Cross Eyed Mary

Tull's Cross Eyed Mary! One of my fav tunes of all time.

I have never heard of Atomic Rooster. :guh: What's my major malfuntion? Hopefully one can go to youtube and "watch" some of their songs. I listen to XM's Deep Tracks and find a bunch of bands I never knew exisited. The Strawbs, Captin Beefheart, a bunch of em. Need to check this AR. What songs do you suggest I start with razor?

They were pretty obscure in the US and sadly changed direction after Death Walks Behind You. I liked the entire album but be warned they are one of those bands that made an entire song out of two riffs... Heep was responsible for doing this too. They just had this raw edge to them on DWBY. Songs I know I found on youtube were Tommorow Night, which I believe was a hit of sorts in England, kinda commercial. Best song is probably Sleeping for Years, there is a non vid clip of it on there of the studio recording. I dont think they have Gershatzer. The title track is interestingly dark and metalish but very redundant. Vocals arent great but livable. Seven Streets is alright. One song I havent managed to find to download is VUG, so I forgot how that went. I do still have the Lp but no turntable for years. Vincent Crane the keyboardist was origionally in "The Crazy World of Arthur Brown" remember the song "Fire" ? It starts "I am the God of Hell fire and I bring you Fire" Thats Crane on the Hammond and is one of those rare 60's songs I mentioned earlier that are worth having, I'd like to hear some band metalize that song, it was brooding. I miss those old brooding Hammond players like Crane, Hensley and Frost, a very heavy sounding instrument in the right hands.

I very much remember that great song. Arthur Brown was one of those rare 2 hit wonders wasn't he? That song, and "surfin bird" was his song too, right? Or do I have that wrong. Wouldn't be the first time I got something wrong. Either way, "you're gonna burn, you're gonna burn..."

Hensley was with Heep wasn't he?

And like you, I haven't had a working turn table in years. More like decades. Had a kick ass Fisher stereo that could rattle the windows of the neighbors 3 houses down. It blew up. I nearly cryed. I still have my liquid cooled speakers from that system tho.

So all the classic stuff you're mentioning came to me way after I was into 80's metal ane even 90's. I came late to Pink Floyd, Focus, Camel, ELP, Yes, King Crimson, Uriah Heep. Some of them I just like, and some I adore.

When I think about it I came late to a lot of that music too. Or at least on my own. I had my older brothers playing it and it was on the radio, but I guess I was too young. Then in the 80's I spent 12 years "in the wilderness" where I could only get 4 radio stations and zero TV. So I missed all the early metal bands. So once again I have to go back in time to get some of the best music.

Speaking of Old School. One of my favs from the 60's-70's was Ten Years After. Their early stuff was great. A Space In Time is a masterpiece imo.

Yeah, that's a great station. I really miss the Boneyard (or rather, what it used to be). Now they basically just renamed Buzzsaw on Sirius to Boneyard.

It used to be a damn fine classic metal station. It's not bad, but hardly comparable to what it was.

Speaking of which, Leatherwolf is on Hair Nation right now - Hideaway :)

Which is not a very good cover either.

So far the best cover of a classic prog band made by a metal band is Saxon's cover of 'In The Court of The Crimson King'.

That sounds interesting. I remember Wasp did Humble Pies - I Dont Need No Doctor, which was a cover tune anyhow. I havent heard all the other versions or Ray Charles first recording but it seems Wasp did it Humble Pie style.

Its hard to duplicate that flute on guitar, let alone Andersons presence. One of the bands I was in played Cross Eyed Mary and another Locomotive Breath (without intro) I was never satisfied with how I got the flute part of Cross Eyed Mary across and eventually got the band to drop the song

the one with achilles last stand because i don't care for much Zeppelin but that song is really awesome

A stand out in Zep's career, from 76's Presence album. Great song with a lot of what I call "drive". :kickass: Their longest song too. Truly epic.

Saxson did Court of the C K. Nice. That song is also epic. I've got the vinyl and cd. A lot of hazy memories of that album. o_O Opeth should cover that song. An epic band covering an epic tune. Makes perfect sence to me.

I was really into the Rockin the Fillmore LP for awhile. Marriot was such a great vocalist and it had the young Framptom carving his early licks before he became the pop idle.

Speaking of Zep and Plant, it has been said that the young Plant used to frequent gigs where the Small Faces played, which was Marriots first band and that Marriot was the inspiration of Plants early wailing, harsh vocals.

For some reason that is the only Zep album I could never get into ? Aside from fool in the rain that is.

I should be ashamed, cuz In Through... is the only Zep I don't have on vinyl. Only have it on tape. I mean no offence by this, but Fool in the Rain is one of 4-5 songs by the mighty Led Zeppelin I just don't like. All My Love from that album I don't like either. Maybe cuz I got sick of them on the radio years ago. But Carosumbrwhatever that song is called is a good one. I'm Gonna Crawl is a great blues standard with :Smokin: guitar work. Page was on fire recording that solo. It's a true blues song that is kinda depressing. Maybe that's the point of The Blues.

Ill need to give it another listen... if I had it...lol. Fool in the Rain has the greatest shuffling drum beat. I know years back when someone had the Lp floating around it just seemed so second rate for Zep but then I was past my Zep craze by that time and into fusion and more aggresive progressive rock like Rush, Kansas and Crack the Sky.

I know this is kinda off topic but you mentioned Rush and Zep. When I was in school, you were either in the Rush camp or Zep camp. Of course I was huge into Zep and everybody knew it. One day 3 Rush fans cornered me and started giving me shit. :Smug: I just shruged and said I like Rush too. They were floored. I said, why can't I like both bands? I guess I say this to illistrate how trivial we humans can be sometimes.

Sorry. My fav Zep album is 3. :p:lol:

No wait, my fav is The Song Remains the Same.

Actually, I do love that album. Every once in a while I convince the girl DJ on the "rock" station to play some raunchy Zep tune or Pigs or Sheep from Pink Floyd. And she does cuz she likes it too. But she's the PD. Doesn't happen enough tho.

Mine has to be Houses Of The Holy!!!

Just a feel good all around!! No Quarter too!!! :kickass:

Besides it has many steps and columns!!

For me it would have to be IV. That's the only album where I can sit through the entire thing and not skip a single song. I love Led Zeppelin, but some of their songs just are not that good in my opinion.
