Your MP3 Player... a silly genre question...

I've never been huge on the genre matching, and the stuff I like the most doesn't really fit perfectly into any genre.
These 2 stand out though:

I saw Aerosmith tagged as "Blues" - Shouldn't that be "Hard Rock" or "Rock"

ZZ Top as "Metal"? Depending on what era & what tune, it could be either "Blues" or "Pop".

See, this is why I never even attempted this to begin with....

On Topic:
I still have my ancient Rio-Volt CD/MP3 cd player, hasn't been used in years
and doesn't give me the ability to sort anything by tag...

(I hate going into a concert not knowing half the band's catalog.)

Work Out: anything at 120 bpm for walking/running

Meeting (when I use the player as a recorder)

After October 1 it will be:

Fall shows
Winter Shows
Spring Shows
Summer Shows
Prog11 Thurs
Prog11 Friday night
Prog11 Saturday night
etc...

This thread inspired me to clean up my genre tags once and for all. I came up with 82 genres for 553 artists, and that wasn't being very specific.

I'm not sure which is more impressive; that you can come up with 82 genres or that you have roughly seven artists per genre. Wow.

I really can't even be bothered with the genres. I just leave whatever they were tagged by whoever uploaded them, or if I'm ripping a disc of my own, whatever it pulls from whatever database.

It also seemed to me that sometimes, when I tried to reset the genre in iTunes, it wouldn't "stick."

I don't care enough to change it though...I just go to Artists, Playlists, or Cover Flow.

Same here. I'm usually dialing up by Artist....or sometimes the "my classics" playlist, which basically is a 2,000-song "best of" listing from the rest of the iPod. (About 76Gb worth.)

iTunes is not an MP3 editor. It lacks the ability to change MP3 tags. What it's doing is merely updating its own database with the information you change.

If you want an MP3 editor, try MP3 Tag Tools. It works really well, and it's free.

I use iTunes 7.1 and it tags perfectly. Out of curiosity, even if iTunes doesn't work for some, why would a tagging program be necessary? Tags can be edited under the file "Properties" easily enough.
