I think some people didn't care for the Big Business stuff. They picked it back up with The Bride Screamed Murder a few years ago. Their latest two efforts; Hold It In and Freak Puke are both great imo.

I didn't realize BB and the Melvins had overlap. I liked what I heard from BB, even if it was a little odd.

I would say do yourself a favor as a tech thrash fan and listen to the entire album. These guys are some true musicians, and by the end of the album you should have gained some respect for them. It doesn't show in the first two songs, standard modern thrash stuff in the vein of Hatchet.

I guess the musicianship would be especially impressive considering their handicap - didn't they lose several of their fingers, along with certain other parts?

It's been a while... 2014 was a good year for metal releases imo.

1 - Dead Congregation - Promulgation of the Fall
2 - Drowned - Idola Specus
3 - Triptykon - Melana Chasmata
4 - Pallbearer - Foundations of Burden
5 - Horrendous - Ecdysis

10 - Incantation - Dirges of Elysium
11 - Primordial - Where Greater Men have Fallen
12 - Behemoth - The Satanist

14 - Diocletian - Gesundrian

Best album from 2013 that I didn't really listen to until 2014 and unholy shit is it really, really good - Dream Death - Somnium Excessum

That Black Magic album is fuckin awesome, yeah. I actually didnt list it because i thought it wasnt a 2014 release.

Hey Rumpole is that Hands of Orlac album as good as the debut? Was thinking about buying it but was unsure because its a costly import.

I didn't even know that Hands of Orlac had a new album out. Cool. But those Tarot demos are not that amazing...Really digging that new Satan's Satyrs album.

Figli Del Crepuscolo is amazing, it's a big step up from the debut (which was great), particularly in the songwriting, but also in the production and vocals. The LP is only 12 eur from Horror Records and you get a free download with it, so no excuses!

Tarot's releases just got better and better through the year, The Watcher's Dream is simply amazing, Yoda I thought you would have been all over it. There's another EP coming soon as well as a full length this year. Check out Twilight Fortress here. Rainbow + Uriah Heep +Pagan Altar = Utterly epic.

Everything else on my list is class, all well worth checking out. Also I would add Satan's Satyrs to my disappointments, I really can't stand the new vocal style, which is a shame because Wild Beyond Belief was great.

Also I completely forgot about Occultation - Silence In The Ancestral House. Massive improvement on Three And Seven (which was pretty boring), as atmospheric and strangely bombastic as you would expect when Negative Plane does doom. Highlights - The Place Behind The Sky, Forever Hereafter and the title track.

File Ogre, Agalloch, Dawnbringer and Stargazer under "good, but not great", although Stargazer may change with a few more listens.

Hey thanks, i could only find the cd for $19 euro, which was a lot tougher to swallow.

I really like Tarot, don't get me wrong, but I just don't hear the praise yet.

And Cody, I would totally go see the Wiz with Satan's Satyrs but tickets sold out faster than I can take a shit. I'm not paying obscene Egay prices just to see them. And I even like the Wizard now.

One guy says how a relatively little-known thrash band released his potential favorite of the year, and suddenly they're Manilla Road/The Chasm-tier? Der Morgenstern is somebody that would probably like thrash more if it incorporated more Jew's harp.

I don't have a hard-on for Reek btw, I've heard a few songs before and thought they were decent IIRC, but haven't checked out the full album yet.

I'm not the one comparing them to either of those bands, you fully blown retard. There's nothing unique or interesting about Reek. They're as bland as your taste in music. I'm not surprised you're defending them.

And, yes, they need more Jew's harp.

Why would Tarot release 3 15 minute plus EPs in one year? Just call it a fuckin album and release th together. Goofy attempt at being kvlt?

I liked those Tarot Eps too but yeah that's ridiculous. Just come out with an album and be done with it. Also, for some reason I thought I did this list already.

Blut aus Nord - Saturnian Poetry
Emptiness- Nothing but the Whole
Darkspace - III I
Empire of the Moon - 2014
Execration - Morbid Dimensions
Owl's Blood - Cold Night of Meditations

Skaphe - s/t
Lathspell - Impious Incantations

Vampire - s/t
Swallowed - Lunarterial
Slint - Spiderland
Blood Farmers - Headless Eyes
