this is a really boring thread

i'm just a li'l bit curious how y'all get by

Always 0 moneys left at the end of the month but we could probably do just as well with less if we had to. Steady income and steady costs, more or less, so with minimal planning stuff works out.

somewhere between 2 and 3. Meaning I could probably fare much better (and save for an hypothetic "future") by spending less on shit that brings me ten seconds of genuine enjoyment.

well for me this particular month is rough as hell but i'm in a transitionary period where i went from working fulltime to working 40% and running a business on the side which hasn't really gotten started properly yet

usually what happens is i can buy almost everything i need/want on a day-to-day basis and still have a hundred or two (usd equiv.) left at the end of the month.

+1.

When I first got to germany I was worse off than +1. Then I got a job here and landed firmly between +1 and 2.

Now I'm somewhere between 2 and 3 and I'm at the bottom of the pay-scale so soon I can buy lots of shit I don't really need. First I have to fix/replace/repair all the shit I DO need.

I'm at the point now where I can put away $600-$700 every month in a savings account. When my girlfriend moves in and gets a job we could probably start looking for a house almost immediately.

that's great man, i'm glad somebody is making money around here.

That's really really good and I'm a bit jealous, but then again I've got my shit pretty well sorted for a bloke my age.

Yeah, I'm what, 10 years older than you? And I spent 5 years at college/university plus 3.5 at a shitty job before I even started to make enough money to be able to save some. I'm expecting a raise any day now.

but we actually can afford stuff like laz0ring your eyes for lots and lots of doleros and we do save, even if it is a small amount, so I really don't think we are in any position to whine.

Edit: In other words; economy is ok(but I soon have to begin to pay of my 4 years of studies, gah)

Yeah, I'm 23 and have after my graduation from college/university spent three years at the same company, and like Johanna said, we do save but not $6-700, and I doubt we will as the kiddies most likely will keep a'comin :Spin: And that requires (Well, maybe not requires but it will make shit easier) somewhere to live and a bigger car and stuff like that.

Yeah you're right, nowhere near bad but I wouldn be pissed if we got twice the money each month!

I lied. With the expensive dollar ($1 = 8 kronor) I probably put away around $500 every month.

What would be more interesting to know is how much money people make. I make 25500 swedish kronor before tax, which translates to around 19300 kronor after tax = $2413. As a reference, the rent for my flat is $410 a month.

My shortest term financial goal is to get a masters so I can afford private school for the kiddies. I guess my long term goal is to just live within my means and I think we've always done that for the most part. It's pretty challenging to live on one income for the most part though, imho. We have a nice lifestyle but I think it's mostly because the wife worked for several years prior to having children AND we made shitloads of money off our first house AND we live somewhat conservatively. To put things in perspective, most of our circle of friends live a similar lifestyle and have absolutely no savings. Then again, some other friends in the same group are downright wealthy.

My mortgage, btw, is $1550. I don't think there's a single dwelling in Nashville that rents for $410. My first apartment in early 2001 was something like $650 for a one bedroom in a shootout-in-the-street part of town.

I use loans to pay for housing since I'm still in college, but I make enough money for food, a few CDs, and beer.

Next year, I'll be making about $24,000 a year before taxes to do graduate school. So the next 6 years of my life, I'll be earning that much.

somewhere between 2-3 as well.

if I was not paying off business loans, I could put away quite a bit of money monthly. i am also the only one working right now..

rent is $1200/month.

Then again, some other friends in the same group are downright wealthy.
don't know anyone in that category :)

btw I recently read what the meaning of "wealth" is ... its basically when you can pay for all your monthly expenses from income that you get without lifiting a finger. some investment that pays for your expenses.

the thing is, if you have only $2000 in expenses a month and can cover that from investment income, technically you're wealthy :loco:

Transparency it is.

at current exchange rates I make $2,681 before tax, that is $2,084 after tax. Then you have to withdraw income tax. I don't know how your respective systems work but that shit is not deducted at the root in France. So in the end what I effectievly earn is $1,819 a month. Remove fix charges and rent and I'm left with $780 in the hands for a month. Actually not much for such a ridiculously expensive area as Paris.Soon even less as I'll probably have to buy a new PC on credit (mine is in its death throes atm). But I cope. As I said I could fare better, but I refuse to refrain on cds/concerts when good stuff is provided. Of course saving is out of question until I get a substantial wage increase, which is not likely to happen anytime soon... :erk:
