Your top 10 Black Metal albums

To be honest Mercyful Fate musically isn't Black Metal, but that's also true that corpsepaint and lyrics ARE Black Metal.

Mercyful Fate is black metal. They were black metal before the 2nd wave existed, and they are black metal after. 1st Wave BM is still BM.

anyway.

1. Bathory - Bathory
2. Mercyful Fate - Don't Break the Oath
3. Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky
4. Emperor - In The Nightside Eclipse
5. Blasphemy - Fallen Angel of Doom
6. Negura Bunget - Om
7. Black Witchery - Desecration of the Holy Kingdom
8. Archgoat - Angelcunt (Tales of Desecration)
9. Dawn - Slaughtersun (Crown of the Triachy)
10. Dissection - The Somberlain

I said MUSICALLY. Indeed "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" and "Melissa" SOUND equal, of course. Don't say craps, Mercyful Fate sounds Classical Heavy Metal, and the only Black Metal things Mercyful Fate has are corpse paint and lyrics.

At the moment something like this:

Ulver - Bergtatt
Sacramentum - Far Away from the Sun
Dawn - Nær Sólen Gar Niþer For Evogher
Negura Bunget - 'n Crugu Bradului
Windir - 1184
Gorgoroth - Pentagram
Aeternus - Beyond the Wandering Moon
Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane
Blut Aus Nord - The Work Which Transforms God
Mütiilation - Remains of a Ruined, Dead, Cursed Soul

Wrong. Stop trying to define black metal based on the SECOND WAVE. There was a FIRST WAVE and that included Mercyful Fate.

A style a band plays is not 'changed' because of bands that followed and are influenced. It's not Mercyful Fate's fault or any first wave BM band that majority of the bands sound nothing like them or anything. Venon,Celtic Frost,Bathory are also black metal bands.

lol someone from here sent me a facebook message demanding why I don't like "Filosofem"

I also unabashedly defend the first black metal album I ever owned which is "Dusk and Her Embrace" by Cradle of Filth. In the beginning I just wanted the most ridiculous, absurd, "goth-est" thing out there, and I have not heard any symphonic cheese that even compares to the magnificent theatrical cheese of that album.
