Your top 5 solos of all time

The only thing I've said is that he's better than Hammet and I've also said that I know lots guitarist which are better than Alexi and I haven't start this fight butthole, so better you and Cliff stfu when your only "arguments" are just bullshit!

Wtf??? There are epic finnish guitar players

Who? Alexi? Kride? Jani Liimatainen? The guy from wintersun?

Playing fast doesn't make you good.

Guitar players who are fast AND good: Vinnie Moore, Michael Romeo, John Petrucci (and I don't even like Dream Theater!), Mattias Eklundh, Paul Gilbert, Yngwie when his fist wasn't incomparably stuck up his arse (i.e., his first two albums), etc.

Guitar players who are simply good: Alex Lifeson, David Gilmour, Eric Johnson, Andre Olbrich, Adam Jones, Randy Rhoads...

Guitar players who are fast and aren't even slightly good: Michael Angelo, Yngwie after shoving his fit up his arse, Kride, the guy from wintersun, Rusty Cooley, Kiko Loureiro, Me, etc. The list is endless!

Point in question: Being fast helps, but it doesn't make you good. Music is all about melody, and many metal guitar players forget about it trying to show off how fast they can play.

No offence dude, but It has nothing to do with fanboism when I say that Alexi is better than Hammet and play way better solos when he IS better. That's fact. I've listened to Metallica for a long time but lost my interest in this band the first time I heard Bodom. I didn't liked the Band at the beginning but the first solo I've heard was the Warheart solo and to be realistic: Hammet could never do such solos. All solos on Death Magnetic are totally crap.

Oh and am I an Gilbert/Yngwie/whoever fanboi when I say this his solos are also better? You justwrote crap!

You lost interest first time you heard Bodom. As in, you listend to nothing but Metallica for a year, heard Bodom, and now listen to nothing buy Bodom. *sigh* Children....

Grats on pointing out Death Magnetic solos were lame...although you fail by not pointing out the entire album was lame, as well as the 5 or so that came before it.

Yngwie is shit too
Him and Alexi just steal classical shit for their solos and melodies, they can both fuck off. So yes, you are still an fag since you seem to think playing faster = better soloing. Suck my dick.

Butt: Justice was 88, and half of the album is lame (Harvester of Sorrow wtf)

and if you were a bit more objectiv you wouldn't say this cause everybody know that Alexi is a much better soloist.

Please cease your mustard-tigery.

You're lame. The only weak song on Justice is Eye of the Beholder. :p

What?!?

lol?

When did I say this?

I call it as I see it, you come off as a child who doesn't know at all what he/she is talking about. Although there is a chance you aren't a child, it doesn't change how you come off as one.

You're lame. The only weak song on Justice is Eye of the Beholder. :p

I am not lame...Season 7 is lame, except for the Collins family and "cockadoodle Ketchup chip"

Dude, just give up? You've started this shit not me and you've started calling me [...]. And you are 21 and calling me a child? I've started playing my first instrument when you were a little sperm in your fathers testicle so don't tell me that I don't know what I'm talking about. This is just ridiculous.

So let's end this shit. Back on topic.

I can imagine you were still pushing marbles up your arse at the age of 4. I was reading the Beano when I was that age, back when it was 22p. Can you believe its a fucking £1 now? For a fucking comic?

Age has nothing to do with maturity, as proven by yourself. Childishness can be described as trying to prove oneself on the internet. You put the effort into not only making sure everyone knows how old you are, but also into finding out my age to compare yours to mine in front of everyone. So lol@u. You've proved nothing more than some people continue to be fanboi cunts even after 17.

I'm sure I had better taste in music as a sperm too.

Clearly you don't know what the fuck you are talking about.

If you knew even half of the work from those you wouldn't make such idiotic statements. F.e Sonata has alot of slow song's where Jani incorporates slow playing that sounds nice aswell. Also, you seem like you are damned smart but this particular post was one of the dumbest i've seen(well not quite). You are making a guess statement and hoping it's true.

Yep, Jani has many slow solos and sound great on both fast and slow. He has a sense of melody whether you want to admit or not. I hate how Petrucci got stereotypically dragged as "fast player" when he also has many slow solos. Jari i have no comment of. :p Also Kride is definetly not a senseless fast player...he has some awesome solos aswell. So i think you (Leandro) failed at those.

I agree fully on all the other "bad players" though...

I mainly hate Petrucci from going through music school to find everyone was either a Jazz Elitist, or Jazz Elitist that also likes power/prog.
Tried as hard as I could to like DT, even saw them live, but they are still yet to wow me in any way.

Shit this is a tough one, so I'll just choose whatever seems to be my fancy as of late. And I know it doesn't specify guitar but I figure that's what the thread starter had in mind so I'll just go with it. Although it would be fun to share what solos in GENERAL people like, no matter the instrument.

1. Frank Zappa - Black Napkins
2. Muhammed Suiçmez (Necrophagist) - Fermented Offal Discharge
3. Daniel Mongrain (Martyr) - Perpetual Healing (Infinite Pain)
4. Alex Lifeson (Rush) - La Villa Strangiato
5. Allan Holdsworth - Checking Out

Well, I have lots of favourite solos, but here goes those 5...

1. "Fade To Black", Metallica.
2. "22, Acacia Avenue", Iron Maiden.
3. The end solo in "Hatebreeder", Children Of Bodom.
4. Uh, I'd say "End Of The Beginning", Jason Becker... but that song is like an endless solo, so should I say... all of it? Anyway, expecially towards the end...
5. "Scarified" or "Viking Kong", Racer X. Can't choose between these two, sorry.

...but there's many more (like in the songs "Written In Stone" by Sinergy, or "November Rain" by Guns N Roses, and "Eradication" by All Shall Perish, or "Tunnel Of Love" by Dire Straits, "Freezing Moon" by MayheM...)...
Daaamn, you should have begged for more, maybe like 10 solos or something like that, Arcane! Hehe. :)

First off, you don't begin a reply with "You know shit lulluluz!". That only makes you look like a cunt. Shut the fuck up.

Second. I know over half the work from those. Sonata has slow songs, their guitar work sucks. And most of all songs is the same anyway. Don't be so self important as to deal with YOUR opinion as if it were fact, twat.

About Petrucci - I hate most of the stuff he's done, but if you listen to Images and Words, for example, it's clear that he CAN do great melodies. Unfortunately the jazz fairy caught the best of him.

MY (not the world's, not objective and just my personal taste) list:

1. Steve Vai - The Audience Is Listening (actually the whole song)
2. Chilren Of Bodom - Hatebreeder
3. Steve Vai - For The Love Of God (whole song, and BTW there you got the definition of feeling)
4. Sonata Arctica - Don't Say A Word
5. Children Of Bodom - Oops I Did It Again (I know it's a cover, I know it's nothing special technical-wise, but I love it)

Kirk Hammet has more feeling in his solo's than Alexi. And im not even a metallica fan. And herman Li is out of the question, he's just fucking gay

Some KH solos have some feeling, but moer because of the song than for the solo. KH WAS a great guitar player, but was too addicted to speed. Alexi isn't the best example of feeling (Steve Vai would be f.e.), but has waaaaaay more thank KH.

I meant to sound like a cunt :p That should have been obvious to you.

Secondly, YOU YOURSELF are just now talking like your opinion is fact. You are not keeping a open mind neither motivating your opinion. In what way can you define their guitar work sucks? Just because the bands songs are keyboard dominated and consist mostly of guitar chords and solos?

I do agree on the part about Petrucci though.
