The first name is so when I run each list in my weekly metal column I can attribute it to the writer of the list. Surnames aren't necessary and also some people may not be comfortable supplying their full name which is cool.
The whole point of including these lists in the column is to show what other people are listening to, so a first name at least makes it obvious it's someone else's top six rather than mine week in week out.
It's also a cool way to hear about bands you may not have known about before. If you like four of the bands in someone's list but haven't heard of the other two it might make you check the other bands out.
