What does Blackguard do when not touring? (aka the thread that won't die)

Haven't a lot of bands been invited to Prog Power for this reason?
Take Orphaned Land, as one example.

Band exclusivity is good for a festival (particularly if they depend on drawing from a large geographic area), not for the bands. Exclusivity is only good for bands if the money they make from those one or two appearances is greater than the money they could make from 100 appearances while touring heavily. Which seems extremely unlikely.

If your band is your only source of income (not the case for most "exclusive" bands, but certainly the case for these road-dog bands we've been talking about), then playing more shows always makes more sense than playing fewer.

We need skyrefuge with his amazing data-collecting skills to count exactly how many people were in this shot. Argument is on hold until we gather results!!

Give me some time to collect more photos from the event so I can stitch them together like this Photosynth and create a 3D model to get the overall view.

Must...resist...urge...to...make...offensive... joke!!

But seriously, it warms the cockles of my heart to see Jason learning to use objective data sources. This must be what it feels like when a mother sees her son tie his shoes for the first time!

This topic just beat the Chatroom thread as the one with the most replies in ProgPower USA forum history. :headbang:

Isn't it usually around this time when a member of a band discussed wanders in to provide their input (and then ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE)?

It's definitely up there. You should've seen some of the arguments we had around here 5, 6 years ago. Those were bad!! Plus, the chatroom is mainly Aki promoting it once a week.

Yeah, but Blackguard is too damn busy touring all over the place again, so..

Blackguard can take two years off, but they'll never have an epiphany that will make them realize "oh, THIS is how we can make an album that will have the whole world talking!" Given that, it's better for them to spend that time touring rather than sitting on their butts and twiddling their thumbs while waiting for inspiration that will never come.

Yes, exactly.

I am not sure what the issue is here then.

Once again, I am speaking of the bands that simply don't "have it" as being the biggest culprits (SP???) of tour hopping. It's almost like a last ditch effort of getting in your face, as opposed to let the music do the talking.

Of course there are plenty of bands who made their name as a road warrior (Metallica being a prime example), but they had something unique that hadn't really been seen before by the crowds who were seeing them for the first time.

The irony of it all is that with so many one-of-a-kind, exclusive appearances and amazing headliners ProgPower has ever had, the longest thread discussion in the forum goes to the last minute replacement, Blackguard.

You make it sound like they got picked last in gym class

 I never meant it like that. I just expected a longer discussion to be made about say a headliner, or a one-off appearance/event such as Conception, WoMD, etc...

For the record, there have been bands on the ProgPower roster that I would rank below Blackguard.

Right - I pulled her out of the hat just to throw a big name in your face of someone who tours all the time. I don't know if she writes her own songs or not (apparently you do?).

?!

Actually we were just talking about this age of music how there will not be any real true artist in the pop music world that in 20 years you could look back and say they are true artist......someone mentioned Lady Gaga and I found out she wrote lots of Madonna songs. Other than than tid bit, the pop music world doesnt exist.

that same day I was showing someone Naked Gun best of clips.....5 days later Leslie Neilson died. Kind of creepy.

Haha, I poked around some of the older threads, and daaaamn. One unwritten rule I've noticed seems to be, "You do not, under any circumstances, mention Pain of Salvation." (OSHI -- :heh:)

Aaaahhhh Conception. I need a time machine so I can see that. And possibly every roster before this year's. :/

Claus, I think they played in front of more than just 200 people:

waiting for Aeonic or Claus to mention photoshopping.

You can mention PoS, as long as you don't do it in front of Zod and J Dub.

See what happens when you show up late to the party?

I am thinking of having a festival here in Chicago. let see....since there are a bunch of bands who play all the time but from what guys here say it increases thier fanbase and people who turnout for shows each time... I guess my fest will sell out instantly. So if Neils last.fm data and Claus's theories are correct.....this fest here is an instant sell out of at least 2,000 since people from all over the country who got into these bands will want to come over and see them all on 1 stage. Plus each person coming was from a different show too so I am hitting all sorts of markets of metal from death to power metal.

I am thinking the fest will be like this.

Blackguard
Swashbuckle
Powerglove
Mutiny Within
Warbringer
Bondeb By Blood
Evile

I may toss on 5 local openers too since people tend to like that. I wonder who this would do. From all the data collected here I should be sitting on a pile of money at the end of the night. I mean all these bands have crossed over to different fans and from what I read people are really getting into these bands now since they play so often here....this would be a great bill since each band has its own huge fanbase now. Look forward to seeing you all there. I may have room available in my apartment for out of towners.

LMAO at you

you wont come to my fest. No need. I figure that in each city those bands all played in that 5 people liked them and bought stuff. With each time they played they gained 5 more fans. By the 4th time it is 20. Now all those bands together at one fest will at least get half to a quarter of each cities fanbase. I am all set. The constant touring should have NO effect on this fest.

I realize that you think you're being clever by posting this tongue in cheek hypothetical festival situation but it just comes off as butthurt :(

Anyway, thread already took the number 1 spot which was my intention in posting the past two days or so, so unless something interesting comes up, I'm out.

It's been fun.
