2013 NHL Thread

So you were a hipster in the 90s?

I just liked the Avs better when they were Nordiques. :Smug:

I don't know, even if there was a superstar from my town, if there was 3 guys from my town playing on a single team, I'd probably end up rooting for them. And it's not like Naslund was a chump either, as he was a Hart finalist the year Forsberg won it.

Pretty much, plus Sweden rarely produces any pure snipers which makes Näslund stand out, not being the usual Swedish two-way forward. As good as Forsberg was he never scored over 40 goals in a season.

I can't get into this shit anymore, his elbow never hit his head, it was his shoulder. He messed up, he missed his check, quit acting like the Bruins are the hockey team that has players that never get suspended for anything.[

He led with his elbow and yeah Scott caught him with his shoulder too. Regardless, c'mon RMS, that was as dirty a hit as youll see all year. I have major respect for tough / fighters in the NHL and the role that they can play, but Scott does absolutely nothing else and there is no place for guys like him in todays NHL. He is strait from the 80's type goon.

We're talking about Scott's incident here...not about the Bruins. Why does everything have to be twisted back at the opposing team everytime an incident is brought up lol? But if you want to go at the Bruins, then ill atleast say for a team that has played as tough, physical and consistent as any team in recent years, the Bruins for the most part have done that aspect of the game the right way.

didn't notice we posted in the NFL thread haha good call

I don't think he led with his elbow man, he would have been sideways then. It was a bad hit, but I think dirty implies Scott wanted to cream Erikson, and I won't believe that. If it was berg/march/lucic/thornton/chara maybe you could argue that, but we have nothing against Erikson.

I don't get this argument about the old style goons, if he is so useless then why not just abuse the teams 'dumb' enough to use it? The one good thing about Scott playing for us is some players get more minutes because Scott can't be trusted with more than 6 minutes, so that's good for our youngins i'd say.

It just annoys me how people see this hit and act like he's the first and worst to ever do it..there seems to be one guy on every team that pushes that boundary and sometimes messes up, and that's what happened here I think, except now we have 2 already to start this season which is just bad attention for us right now.

But I may have been a little extra ticked, I was arguing on a Bruins forum thing and seemed like douchebags haha

Who do you like?

When I lived in Sweden I was an Avalanche fan purely because of Forsberg, but when I moved to California in 06, I became a Kings fan. When it comes to domestic sports, I don't root for anyone but my "home" team.

I hear ya. I try to call it like it is, wether its my team or the opposing team. Remember previously discussing on Scotts position on the team, I agreed and get that Buff needed some toughness inserted. Just think he hurts the sport, hurts his team more than he helps, he fights and basically nothing else. The B's did end up abusing Buff made them pay and ran away with the game after the ensuing pp. Other teams will do the same to Buff imo. I think Buff could use a tough player that brings a bit more to the table.

As bad as i thought the hit was, my overall concern is the league calling penalties on every big hit. Players are suppose to finish checks, players are going to get hurt etc. Some of these hits on the boards are tough calls, half the D-men are turning right back into hits, what are fore-checkers suppose to do?

Yeah we are in for a massive roster overhaul in the next 1-3 seasons, hard to judge anyone on this team, except our 3rd line, they are looking purdy good for youngins.

I can't believe how bad our defense is this year...

and the biggest problem lies in Quincey

He cannot play defense, he cannot add to the offense...and he's our second highest paid defenseman

Kronwall is having a great year, DeKeyser was doing very well - then gets paired with Quincey and that pairing just was horrible, Kindl is quietly being a very steady and dependable guy on the blue line, and Smith is enigmatic as all hell

though Smith is showing a lot more promise since the Quincey-Smith pairing was broken up

He was the best player on defense against the Sharks, and was one of the few defenders doing anything to give the Sens any amount of trouble...

The defense needs to look something like

Kronwall - E
Kindl - DeKeyser
XO - Smith
Lashoff

I know XO is only a rookie, but he showed he belonged in the big leagues when playing against the Sharks (one game, but still...)

Blackhawks are so fucking lucky. Jesus Christ

I didn't see the game, but what do you mean? The stats indicate the Hawks had nearly 20 more shots on goal than the Lightning Bolts. So much for the Bulin wall.

Lol at the Bruins and their fans complaining about John Scott. The few games that I saw last year the Bruins played like thugs and headhunters.

The last Blackhawks goal... Ya Tampa scored that. Giving the shithawks a point

Blues are slow and playing like pussies. And I don't think they've had a power play
I'm sure having 7 days off doesn't help

Boston's players like that are good players though, people like Scott have no place in the league

Thank you Mort.

Zero, get the static out of your brain. You are way off base here. As mentioned the Bs have thier sketchy moments but they are way few and far between. For a team that has a rep for being tough, phys, etc. as they are, theyre very intelligent and have no thug aspect. Good tough two-way hockey players. You dont knock of a team like the Pens (last year) by being thugs, you do it with clean smart tough hockey, and SCORING! Theyve had the best 3rd and more so 4th line in the league the last few years for a reason. They will answer the bell the right way with the best of the tough guys (led by Thorton) yet they produce many points as well. Same for the 1st and 2nd liners as well for that matter.
