Expert Moue FTW! Just about to hit my 2 year mark with this baby exclusively!

I feel your pain...

My mighty mouse has been scroll-ball-useless for a while now. I actually got USED to not having one.

I need a new mouse...What should I get?? That one above looks pretty massive.

Ugghh, I hate track balls - just get a freakin' wireless logitech, I've been using mine for 2 years as well, and it's a mouse for chrissakes

The Mighty Mouse is crap because like all other Apple mice, it's design over function. Steve Jobs just can't bring himself to have physical buttons on devices. He's an obsessed fucking freak, particularly about the number 1 of all things, and Apple suffers at times because of it. Don't get me wrong, I admire the design aesthetics he's going for, as I am a huge fan of the set designs in Kubrick films like 2001 and A Clockwork Orange, Roger Dean artwork, and Scandinavian modern furniture, but there are some things in life where that kind of elegant minimalism has no place...

I myself use a Microsoft Laser Mouse of all things (and love it), although I am planning to get a Kensington Expert Mouse soon.

I bought a Logitech Trackman recently and I loved it so much I bought another one to use at work. I highly recommend them.

My problem with the mighty mouse was that I would constantly activate the exposé because of the way that I hold the mouse. I use that short cut a lot (I multitask like crazy :) ) but I would constantly do it on accident.

Logitech MX510 user here. I need to have the right-click function readily available instead of apple+click or whatever the keyboard/mouse combo is with the MightyMouse.

$40-50 new though...but it's the shit for gaming :)

Mighty mouse DOES have a right click button. go to the mouse preferences and assign to what ever...

I like my mighty mouse btw. the rolling ball is great when editing. FYI it can scroll sideways too :p

The scroll ball on the Mighty Mouse is innovative and useful, but difficult to clean effectively. Sure you can turn the mouse upside-down and rub the wheel with a damp cloth with 99% isopropyl, but it's not that effective.

my wireless mighty mouse is annoying as fuck,
the conection is shakey as hell and it hurts my hand after a while.
microsoft laser mouse here too!!

Mine works great, my scrolling ball locked up once, you just gotta give it hell, just scroll vigorously for a little until it opens up again. Haven't had an issue since. I'd buy another, Track balls are cool, but it'd take time to get used to it. I would like have the extra buttons for the different tools in Pro Tools though.

So I opened my mighty mouse up (pretty easy actually) and discovered a few things:

This mouse has a piezo speaker inside (for what I have no idea).

Also to my suprise there is only one switch relay for clicking! I honestly have no idea how this works, but I am certain no matter how you press the mouse down your only ever hitting one switch. The side switches (not surprising) work by pressing 2 thin strips of metal together. These have always been shitty to me personally so I disabled them when I used this mouse.

Now for the scroll ball: After taking my mouse apart I discovered that even still I can't get to this encloser any better to clean it. :erk:

I found a picture of a dissected mighty mouse online and it looks identical to mine so:

Here is the scroll ball:

All in all not that impressed with the whole thing, apple (unless it's like a patent thing or something) should have gone with a 2 switch system because I never had a lot of luck with the left, right clicking thing. It would have been nice if the side buttons clicked a little better. The trackball should have been able to be cleaned.

That is all.
