666!

Omg it was teh Slipknotzzz that inv enteddd the nubmer of tha beaastttt!!1!!one!!!
If yooou're 555 then I'mm 666 yeaaaaaaaaarghghhghgghgh gh hgh gh !!!1!!one!!1!!!

Interestingly enough that song is one of the few which suggests that the number of man is neither 777 or 666, as these are the numbers of God and Satan respectivley, but that the number of man is infact 555. As Angels are closer to God than humans and Satan is a fallen Angel, it isn't completely rediculous that this could be the case.

But in the case of Slipknot it's probably just coincidence, I doubt they were putting forth a structured and researched arguement for reconsideration of the exact date of the apolcalypse.

Woe to you, Oh Earth and Sea, for the devil sends the beast with wrath, because he knows the time is short.....
Let him who hath understanding recon the number of the beast for it is a human number, its number is Six Hundred and sixty six
REVELATIONS CH X111 v.18

To nitpick, it's a hodgepodge of Rev 12:12 and Rev. 13:18. KJV? I forget. There are a ton of different translations, but that certainly is the one that IM uses.

Yeah, the NOTB is likely 616. Check this out:

Also, Maiden certainly made the number accessable to metalheads, but I do believe the original The Omen beat them to the pop culture punch by about 6 years.

If biblical history can't get one of the most important numbers to the faith correct, then I wonder what else in the bible could have been misinterpreted...

Maybe "Though Shalt Not Kill" was supposed to be "Though Shalt Not Wear a Kilt" all along...

(alright, I stole that last part from robin willians, i admit)

Nitpick away, just thought I would add what is on the LP.
Vincent Price does the biz reading it though, you have to admit :heh:

Actually I am glad this topic came up - it spurred me to dust down my old IM LP and play it for the first time in years.
Bastard though, the needle stuck twice on side two :-(

Well, Revelations is pretty much written in code by John when he was probably high as a kite or trippin his ass off... Or, as the church calls it "Divinely Inspired".

Todays Bible is barely the same book as the original, which was a mix of texts and docterines from the other Abrahamic religions. Many of it's storied had already been told in other mono and polytheistic religions for thousnads of years, for example Jesus' story of the birth death and resurrection only to happen once again had already been told in the stories of Osiris and Dionysis. The original Hebrew Bible was compiled from over 2 hundred books written anywhere between 20 and 200 hundred years after the death of Christ, many were left out, particularly those accounts written by women, the first of the Churche's acts in the conspiracy to oppress women. Since then it's be translated into classic Latin, Old English and Middle English among others. Considering Hebrew doesn't translate idiomatically to Latin and Latin doesn't translate idiomatically even to old English or Middle English (a variety which rules are based on Latin), the notion that what is written in the Bible to day is anything at all like it's original form is ludicrous.

Read up on theses put forth by religious theologian Robert Beckford and Richard Dawkins if you find this stuff interesting.

Most contemporary Christians are comletely ignorant (through no fault of their own) of the exact origins of their religion, but as Christianity like all other faith preaches ignorance over experimentation, this is not suprising.

Well, it's not Vincent Price. You're confusing this with "Thriller"... ;)

Seriously, it doesn't sound nearly gay enough to be VP. I don't mean that in a nasty way, either. Just stating facts.

I can't find his name anywhere, except that it is, coincidentally, John something...(The Apostle who wrote Revelations was John)

VP cost way too much for IM to afford. Michael Jackson apparently could pay up...

Well said. Also check out Bishop Shelby Spong's "The Sins of Scripture". Great for learning about the idiocy of literal interpretation.

Dude should have read the passage of Jesus in the desert tempted by Satan. Jesus said "don't test God like that". looks like he was right.

Lets agree to differ, I recollect it was him in the video, but hey, who cares :)
With age comes senility

Am I seriously being this much of a pedantic asshole? What the hell is wrong with me and why won't I let this go? Geez... I used to be a HUGE Maiden fan, so I guess that explains my reluctance to let you go on believing what you want to believe. I hate to ruin fond memories, but VP is nowhere in that video. Again, as a former IM fan, I have their "Visions of the Beast" and just watched NOTB to verify your claims. They show a ton of old campy horror flicks (notably Nosferatu, and oddly, Godzilla makes an appearance!) No VP. The first part, the "Woe to you..." sounds a bit like VP, but "Let him..." part is far too deep and masculine to be VP. How anyone ever thought he was scary is beyond me. Homophobia, maybe?
