A Day To Remember - What Seperates Me From You

the four bendeth mixes suit the band perfectly and the guitar tone is dead on.
I must admit that with the heavy songs the guitars sound dosnt fit but on the other hand that songs werent mixed by bendeth.

and to be honest I dont like the production on homesick because its way to metal for a punk/hc band

Meh, I think heavier mixes make poppier bands sound better.
IMHO Paramore has a pretty heavy/metal type mix
Same goes for bands like My American Heart, Tides of Man, ect ect

If im hearing it right theres a high hat glitch in "all signs point to lauderdale" at about 1:07ish and 1:13ish

its at 1:08 and 1:15, im listening to it with head phones and its coming from the left side. it may just be because its a youtube video, but i heard it on a few different videos

1:08 is a china hit, but 1:15 sounds like he previously hit a crash and they didn't punch in very cleanly; solid ears, but I'm not sure I find it really distracting or important? We can find issues like this all day in major-label releases.

I'm not even hearing it in that video either.

And about the Paramore mix- I feel the same way
The drums are very metal-ish. Meaning they would fit a metal mix almost perfectly since they aren't over-bearing in the lowend like alot of Rock mixes.
Bass tone is also almost perfect for Metal too. The distortion cuts through like crazy on the bass. Don't know about the guitar tone though...

And to the comment about the guitar tone-
It's not always the mixer's fault for crappy guitar tones. Sometimes they are provided with DI tracks and they usually aren't their for tracking...
BUT seeming as the same producer was used as was on Homesick, I can't imagine tracking being the issue, but you never know. I never liked the Homesick guitars or drums, but the vox on that album were AMAZING.
The guitar tone on the new album is PERFECT for their pop-punk songs, but it sucks for the heavy songs. It's a shame the whole record wasn't mixed by Bendeth. Jeremy's voice sounds sooooo shot though...

i didnt think it was a big deal, i just never caught one of the little glitches before in a major release before. i guess i gotta pay more attention now

wow! you guys are brutal :zombie:

Just a little background to the guitars: On the 4 tracks Bendeth mixed, I reamped the guitars with Amplitube to get a more controlled and solid midrange. I thought they sounded huge.
On the other trax I mixed, the producer/band wanted to feature their original 5150/ish sound... so you can hear there is a bit less clarity between the gtrs and bass. Sometimes there are more factors involved than just going with what someone thinks sounds amazing. All well. I guess that means I suck.
Although most of my mixing is done ITB (and bendeth is OTB) both of us mixed on our SSL G+ for this album. Nuendo 4 + Apogee converters.

flame on.....
Dan

cheers dan, hope you stick around though - theres a lot of huge fans of your work here!

eh.. this place doesnt scare me :loco: I've only been mixing a few years, so maybe I can move up the ranks from "COMPLETELY AWEFUL" to "SLIGHTLY TERRIBLE" in the near future.
