do you think that would be a good idea? (no one mention Opeth by the way!!) I mean i was choosing a Katatonia album to play yesterday and thought, hmm, i'll pick a mellow one. And i realised then, there isnt really one, its more like 4-5 on each album. A 'quiet world' type album would be great, doubt they'd play anything like that anymore.

oh well, whats your thoughts?

Discouraged Ones is the most "mellow" album Katatonia ever released, but it's not really that mellow. Mellow album would be apreciated, but would universially hated by everybody else (I have to mention Opeth) Like Delivrance (or Damnation? Don't know). Besides, I like the way it's right now... Though everything that's good would be accepted. :)

damnation isn't that mellow imo... good besides a joint though...

i think katatonia will play an album like DO sometimes again. but somewhere in the future, after some other "viva emptiness"-er albums (perhaps real doom anytime again?).

something like quiet world, day or relention would be damn cool

That would be great. Quiet World is one of the most beautiful songs, and it would be interesting if they could create a whole album with such a serene atmosphere.

Yes, because there is always time for malancholy. No, because I'm afraid it could resemble e.g. THINE, which sounds too pop for me. As far as I'm concerned, old-styled music would be far more welcomed..
Yet so far I digest all their releases with great gusto, so at last.. why not?

No. I can't imagine 11 songs like day, or quiet world. They have to do their sound. And i think, katatonia sound is not only mellow songs.
This songs are great mixed with the albums, you know? In Brave, the song day are perfect, in the middle of the Cd. Everything in the correct moment, you know man? But, yes that kind of songs are great, too.(Gone, Day, Quiet World, This punishment, For funerals to come....)

oh, you know that is jonas who told mikael to do that experiment of D&D... you should blame him since he didn't keep this idea for his band...

Personally, I think the mellow songs are great, but they are even better when used as an interlude or an addition to the heavier songs. For example, "Day" perfectly adds a little atmosphere between "Murder" and "Rainroom." Another good example is "Madness Caught Another Victim" from Evergrey's 'Recreation Day.'

Hey... I agree with the last post.... The new style is superb, so why change into something more mellow? VIVA Emptiness kick ass...

I dont like the idea of a mellow Katatonia album...Tonights Decision and LFDGD are pretty mellow as it is

grandbazaar kick ass avatar...but legato kicks more ass :)
Hehe thanks Trigun just simply rocks! it's starts silly than dark it's a good combo! Each character is memorable especially Vash and wolfwood who basically share the same ideas but reaches them in a different way!

I think Discouraged One is the most mellow of all. My favorite song off of that CD is Nerve at some point in the song Jonas voice is simply amazing. You can feel the sadness, the pain his voice is trembling and it gives me shivers down my spine each time I hear it. Tonights Decision is more upbeat, LFDGD is also mellow but not as much as Discouraged Ones in my opinion, and Viva well it's pretty darn aggressive.

There is no need for a more mellower CD

Ehm TD is in fact one of the more heavy albums, just listen to the riffs, they have a significant punch to them, heavyness is not just about making alot of noise... I mean, listen to Black Session, listen to the fucking riffs! The sound is increadibly heavy...
