I went with the Highland 12 year. I was surprised that it was comparably priced to the JD I bought (same size bottle). I actually think the JD was more. I wantedthe Bookers but didn't want to spend that much in 1 trip.

Highland is the good choice.

I've had about a third of a bottle of Dalmore... and I feel excellent.

I had forgotten how much of a difference there is between scotch and bourbon. This is nice, but I went with some water. It will take me a bit to get my bearings but I do enjoy it. My father is coming to town in about 2 weeks and he will fucking love this stuff. My wife was a little pissed that I dropped $70 between that and the JD (I love the stuff) but whatever. It should last a while.

Has anyone tried Heaven Hill? It's a cheaper bourbon and is quite good. Strong charcoal flavor. It runs around $14 for the same size as a JD $30 and is slightly stronger. Everyone I have convinced to try it has been quite pleasantly surprised.

Haven't even heard of that before now.. may look into it. JD is very overrated to my mind, but I like a good bourbon within price range now and then.

I should add that I've never thought to ask if they were pleasantly surprised overall...as in it's a decent bourbon or if they were surprised that the cheap stuff wasn't bad.

If you do: then you have a drinking problem.
Drink when you feel like it, just know your boundaries and know when
