thoughts??

i just picked mine up today, and while nice, i kind of wished for more.. however i havent heard 'the grey' so maybe it's how it's supposed to be.. but where's haughm's awesome growls?? *runs off crying*

i know ben has it already, any one else receive theirs yet?

Yeah, the band has said many times that their EP's are supposed to be experimental, often more ambient than their albums. The albums is where they focus on the songs.

I might pick up a copy at the show next weekend.

Well, I heard the promo mp3 first, read all the lead up to it, so I knew exactly what I was in for. For what it is, I like it. It's all the acoustic stuff that didn't make it onto Ashes because of the direction that cd took.

I can't stand The Grey though.

We are not interested in whoring our merchandise everywhere to make money. We would much rather have our products mean something, and be special than to produce thousands of shirts, bags, underwear or whatever. Besides, we want to spend time making music, not running mail orders.

We are sick of people buying our items in surplus, and then selling them on Ebay later and making tons of money off of us. Thats why we have been forced to limit the number of shirts sold to one person.

Besides the fact that we all live in different states now, me selling shirts that John has in Portland, when I live 2,000 miles away, is more work than its worth.

My post wasn't really intended to encourage it, more so just to point it out. I'd much rather you guys spent time on music than running a mail order. I just get a little frustrated when I struggle to even find a shirt, but that's ultimately a minor complaint.

I do get a bit annoyed seeing folks taking advantage of your fans by buying up limited releases and reselling them. I know a few people were ordering two copies of The White from The End and Vendlus to resell three (or, I suppose, all four) of them. :erk:

Anyways, good luck with the upcoming shows!

Fair enough. The only flaw is that by limiting your merchandise causes a greater demand for it and thus the price will increase... simple supply and demand. I'm sure you're aware that a copy of the Pale Folklore LP in the wooden sleeve went on ebay not long back for well over $500 (limited to 60 copies i believe?). Not only that, but it also increases bootlegged merch production which is something I can't say I would support, but it's a reality.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that you guys have different priorities for ways to spend your time as well as the fact that limited editions and creating a demand for your product means you won't have left-over merch just sitting around. There's no debating whether or not that's the right way to do it. I don't want this to come off as i'm trying to force my own personal opinions of how to run the band, but why not have The End sell your stuff and just keep it out of your hands? I don't expect an answer on that because your relation with the label is none of our business, but it's just a thought that came to mind.

Since things are the way they are, I think limiting the number of items people can buy is a great way to handle it (like you said, stop people from making bank on ebay off of your material). Personally, i have no intention of trying to profit off of anyone else's band merch but there are people who would.

Anyway, since you're here i'm not trying to backpeddle or anything. It seems you guys have perfectly good reasoning for doing what you do, and i also understand that with a band you have to manage your time effectively and it seems that Agalloch is not a band that has the desire to be 100% active all the time. I just know that, as a fan, it'd be killer to be able to get a shirt without getting raped on ebay by some greedy motherfucker or waiting for a show to come around (which i'm lucky that you guys play within driving distance).

Anyhow, I'll be at the show next friday and I'm really looking forward to seeing y'all live finally. Cheers and thanks for the response.

Yeah, I'm not reading all that crap...

Joking of course.

Right, I cant get into our contract or our relationship with The End, but you can imagine the benefits of producing our own merch in small quantities that we can handle for shows.

Also, we are all big fans of the hunt, and of having things that are limited and special. It hearkens back to the days before downloading and the internet when we had to search and find all our records and shirts. When you finally have that rare gem, it makes it even more special.

Completely agree with this.

Since you're here, I hope you don't mind me asking this since we've had a few disappointed fans up in seattle on the subject of the White ep. And again, i don't expect it to go into contracts or any of that, but if you can, do you mind explaining why this is a cd only release? I may be wrong, but i thought the grey ep was a vinyl release. As i said, i know there was some disappointment with this turn of events.

I have no idea what you are talking about.

The Grey EP was cd only, its never been released on any other format. The White EP was never planned to be a vinyl release. Anyone who is disappointed about this is misinformed somehow.

I have no idea what i'm talking about either then

*shrugs* again, there's been a few people locally who were under a different impression. I thought it was pretty clear it was a cd only release but was just curious. Thanks for the answer

edit: ahh, i was thinking of the Tomorrow will Never Come ep. my bad.
