Townsend’s Ziltoid comes to mind. The first three songs are cool as fuck. Then you have like 40 minutes of "eh?"

Virtually every Dream Theater album after Awake. Actually, it seems like most of the big names of metal past their prime can still manage a few good songs amidst a lot of uninspired crap.

Seamount - ntodrm

And old obscure heavy metal bands suffer from this too. I.E. Tygers of Pan Tang and those alike. Even Loudness imo.

EDIT: Generally, black and death metal bands do this less than heavy and doom bands for instance.

Nah, the good tracks are basically "Mouth For War", "Fucking Hostile", and "A New Level". Those are all up front, and the rest of the album blows. "By Demons Be Driven", "Walk", "This Love", and "Hollow" are OK, but pale in comparison to the formerly mentioned tracks.
