Albums that have impeccable production?

hahahah ... i fucking knew it as soon as I saw the thread title.

Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms
Natalie Merchant - tigerlilly (for vocals)

take some Reakwon too for bass :loco:

isis - panopticon

You know..i thought the same exact thing...so the other day, played it and was actually put off. The production seemed a lot worse than I remember it to be. I used to be pwned by it. I'll try that shit again.

I have to throw on a NIN song from either The Downward Spiral or especially The Fragile on there.

Tool - The Patient and/or Reflection
Jeff Buckley - Lover, You Should Have Came Over
Radiohead - Paranoid Android and/or Weird Fishes, ro one of the other 24378957 songs...
Devin Townsend - Deep Peace

I always found Orphaned Land's Mabool to be pretty solid on a nice set of speakers. Cemetary Earth, with the right EQ could sound quite amazing. Very good separation of instrumentation on that mix. Symphony X's The Odyssey is very well produced and would probably sound amazing in the high end realm. Opeth's new one might sound well depending on the EQ. Katatonia's latest, Great Cold Distance was pretty decent in the production side.

Metal is kind of a hard genre in terms of good production. Most of the albums with great production suck in terms of song writing.

i would bring the chemical wedding because it is a well balanced, well recorded, fairly conservatively mastered album that i have listened to non-stop since 1998 so i know exactly what it sounds like

your mileage may vary though you should ideally pick an album that you are AS intimately familiar with

Are you going to buy the CDs that the songs are on?
The mp3s of these songs won't do you much good as a reference since mp3 is compressed and generally crap. If you are downloading, look for FLAC files.

When we were testing car audio installs, Madonna's Vogue was a great all around track. The snaps and clicks, low end and crisp highs in the song were a pretty good reference. There was an IIASCA disc that we used as well, but I lost it years ago.
