Alexi Laiho vs Roope Latvala

... says a guy who could be Alexis son...
how can he be less awesome as he was ten years ago?
1.: he's now much more awesome than he was 10 years ago and
2.: you can't get a worse guitarist. only Alexis style changend dude

^I think he means that Roope has awesome ideas, but that he can only squeeze a limited amount of them into Bodom. Just that he wrote it in quite a fucked up sentence

@The Kid: Quit just saying what's trendy, now it's trendy bashing Alexi, but it's not true. Ok, he's not as tight as he used to be live, or at least not always, because he's had quite some tight shows, e.g. last European tour they played really tight. But go to the album and see for yourself. That said, I can't say any of them. Roope throws in some awesome licks, but Alexi has to sing. we'd have to see them changing roles to be able to say imho.

I understood he said Roope has written "the only few cool musical pieces COB have."

Some people always bash these awesome guys and claim they're receiving hype for nothing.. It's the same in music and sports.. The reason people may bash Alexi these days is because of the change in music COB has adopted.

I liked the live attitude he had back in the day. (See Seoul gig.) These days he's trying maybe too hard to entertain the crowd. He should speak with his own natural voice. As for the playing I don't know, but needless to say when you have the pressure to really steal the show and the hearts of the people when they still don't know you, then you do 100%. These days no-one will punish for a few lazy riffs.

Roope is obviously an awesome rhythm guitarist for COB but Alexi should make more room for Roope in the songs to show his skills. I'd like to see patterns like this:

Alexi solo over Janne&Roope background
Roope solo over Janne&Alexi background
Janne solo over Alexi&Roope background

In mixed orders of course. I'd like long solo sections that change tempo from slow and melodic to ultra fast shreds..

I see what you mean about having to prove that you can do it when you're unknown and not having such a need that much when you're big already, but sometimes (see Needled 24/7 intro at Graspop e.g.) an a bit tighter playing wouldn't harm. I mean, they blamed themselves for not playing tight on CRY, but they did indeed put a pretty good show together. But then (recorded things) Wacken 08 Roope totally raped his BFH solo or as mentioned Alexi didn't exactly nail Needled 24/7's intro at Graspop 09. They still play pretty good, but a bit more attention to details wouldn't harm imho.

About Roope getting more room I'd definitely like that, but dunno, COB already has Alexi and Janne soloing (mostly Alexi, who has solos in all songs), maybe adding Roope too would be too much. But I'd definitely like having at least a couple of twin solos/solo battles per album Sinergy style.

mm?
I thought it was trendy to be an Alexi fanboy nowadays.
Regardless, I wasn't trying to be trendy or "different", or whatever.
What I SHOULD have said was;
"Roope, because he inspired Alexi to play, I prefer his lead tone and playing style, and his work in Sinergy and Stone is fucking awesome.", because that was my honest opinion and reasoning behind my response.

What exactly was so fucking awesome about Stone? And what Roope made in it to be that way? I hate when teens like you say Stone was real killer and heavy, when they propably even have ever heard them before. Just because all the other kids say the same thing.

In my opinion Stone was just poor man's version of Metallica. Definitely overrated.

Horse shit music with some guitar playing, nothing else to me...Of course with this attitude you could say COB is kids' music because it's so catchy etc, but that's how I think about Stone.

I think the same. And, I don't think that Roope wrote anything for Stone. Maybe some licks but nothing more. He also wrote just a few things in Sinergy and I don't know if he wrote anything for COB. Most of this stuff wasn't his idea - he just play what the guys told him to play. But I can't say if he's a good songwriter or not. I know Alexi definitely is.

Being a good guitarist doesn't mean you're a good songwriter, just because your acknowledge of theory and ability with the instrument enables you to write songs. It's like saying people with large cocks are directly good at sex.

Does a guitarist need to know how to sing, sing while playing and how to write good songs, to be a guitarist? No.

This was about who's the better guitarist. This is all bullshit as long as someone with insight compares their skills with the axe. I don't even like the question, nor do I care. They're just different.

Stone isn't bad at all, but is thrash-speed metal and that's not really liked around this forum, so there's no point eve trying to discuss about their quality. Most people will say it sucks without having even heard half of their stuff and then most likely guitar players will say it's not bad just out of respect for Roope. No real discussion can be held here.

That's not fair. Roope has actually written quite a bit of stuff. I don't have my Stone albums with me atm, but if someone else doesn't do it before me, I'll look and post here which songs Roope wrote or not. About Sinergy, he did write quite a bit, including one of my favourite songs, Shadow Island.

^Dude, I said this because the Kid said he likes his awesome work in Stone and Sinergy. And: I can play all Bodom songs including solos but does this mean that I'm an awesome guitarist? I think no. I just did the same thing Roope did. Guitarists are awesome when they can compase stuff which IS aswesome and when they can play it. Just play what other people told you to play isn't awesome in any way. I really like Roope but I don't understand it when people say he's better then Alexi or awesome when he just plays what Alexi told him to play.

@ Jose

I know that he wrote a few things but most of the stuff comes from Alexi.

And yes, I do also hate this discussion. And in my opinion it's senseless to discuss about it cause we all know that both are great guitarists but Alexi is a better musician. Why? He can definitely play all things Roope can play plus he's also the singer of COB and the main songwriter in Sinergy and COB and without those 2 bands Roope weren't as famous as he is nowadays.
